Today we got the call from the vet with Smudge's biopsy results. The mass that was in his mouth was not cancerous and we are so grateful for that. The lump on his rump that was also removed is unfortunately cancerous. Everything from this point forward is going to be wait and see. We didn't take enough tissue around the lump so there are still cancer cells left. There is a high probability it is going to grow back. What we don't know is when that might happen We also don't know if it will come back locally again or if it will spread and become systemically a problem. There isn't enough data on pigs with skin cancer to know what to do or the outcome. I will continue reaching out to pig groups to see what I can find out. My heart is sad and the unknown is gut wrenching. In this moment he has recovered well from the surgery and we still start removing his stitches one by one day by day to make sure the incision is fully healed. There was alot of tension on the stitches it was tough to stretch the skin to cover where the lump was taken from. If anyone crosses paths with someone who has experienced pig skin cancer I would love to chat with them! For now we wait. 😢🐽

Smudge update ~ Thank you for all the prayers and positive vibes. Smudge is home and recovering. A little cranky lol but he handled the sedation and the procedures like a champ! He ended up having another small tumor removed from his rump and the bigger one in his mouth. They will be sent away and we should have the results in a couple of weeks. His stitches will come out in a couple of weeks for now it's supervision so he isn't trying to scratch the stitches out! Our regular vet Dr Jordan is away but we are grateful for everyone at the Nanton Vet clinic. 💕🐽

Hey everyone! We need all positive healing energy as i head to the vet with our boy Smudge to have a tumor removed from his mouth. We don't know yet if it's cancer we are just focused on getting him safely sedated and it removed. I promise to keep you all posted 💕
