Feathr is the kind of dog who hears the word “skijoring” and immediately turns into a tiny, fluffy rocket with legs.

The moment the harness comes out, he’s all bright eyes and happy wiggles—like he just got invited to the coolest party on snow. And honestly? He did.

Because Feathr doesn’t skijor alone. He’s part of a whole crew.

A merry little pack of zoom machines, each with their own style:
the serious athlete, the chaotic speed demon, the “I’m just here for vibes,” and Feathr—proudly serving cute, confident, and slightly dramatic team captain energy.

They line up like a fuzzy avalanche waiting to happen.
A few excited snorts, a couple of “ARE WE GOING?!” hops…
and then—whoosh—off they go, skimming across the snow like joyful mischief on a mission.

Feathr runs like he’s starring in an action movie,
but with the face of someone who definitely deserves a post-run snack and a medal.

And after?
He’s all snow-dusted whiskers, big grin, and that satisfied sparkle that says:
I was fast. I was brave. I was adorable.

Because that’s Feathr.
A skijoring sweetheart.
A winter legend.
And the cutest little power-up in the whole pack.

Maia arrived in our lives at nine months old like she already knew where she belonged.

There wasn’t a slow warm-up period or cautious introductions. The day we brought her home, she moved through the house with the confidence of someone returning to a place she’d only ever loved. Tiernan—our first Great Dane—met her with curious gentleness, and within hours they were something close to inseparable. Like two halves of a sentence that finally found their punctuation.

We used to swear she understood every word we said.

Not in the “good dog” way, but in the way that made you pause mid-sentence and laugh because the timing of her expressions was too perfect to be coincidence. She was sharp. Observant. The kind of dog who seemed to take notes on the household and then quietly run it.

She was a Great Dane/Labrador mix, which—at the time—we insisted was a terrible combination.

We’d been hoping for a smaller Great Dane. Instead, we joked we’d somehow ended up with a larger Lab. We even said she was “all Lab in the head,” and if we’re being honest, we had never wanted a Lab. We told ourselves we were a Great Dane family. We liked the elegance, the quiet giants, the soft, soulful gravity they carried.

But Maia had her own gravity.

She wasn’t interested in being what we thought we wanted. She was interested in being Maia.

Time has a way of softening the edges of our certainty. And as the years passed, she aged gracefully into the kind of dog you can build a life around. Quiet. Dependable. Loyal in a way that didn’t ask for attention but earned it anyway. The Lab traits we once teased turned out to be the steady heartbeat of our home.

She became the dog who gave the peace back to a room.

The dog who knew when you were tired and stayed near, not demanding anything, just offering presence. The dog who made ordinary days feel safer and harder days feel survivable. The kind of dog who didn’t need a big moment to be unforgettable.

And somewhere along the way, without anyone announcing it out loud, we realized the truth.

Maia was the best dog we ever had.

(Shhh… don’t tell Tyrus.)

Maybe it was because she arrived at the perfect moment. Maybe it was her ridiculous intelligence. Maybe it was the way she loved without drama and stayed without question. Or maybe it was simply that we needed the exact dog she was.

We’ve had to say goodbye far too many times in our adult life. Four cats. Five dogs. Sixteen years of marriage, and a familiar grief we never quite get used to. Some losses were sudden, like the floor dropping out from under you. Some were long illnesses, where love becomes a vigil and time turns into something you negotiate with daily.

Each one left a mark.

Each one asked something different from our hearts.

And every single one mattered.

It’s strange how we always imagine we’ll have more time.

We’ll do photos next season. Next weekend. Next year. When the weather is nice. When life quiets down. When the timing feels right. But life isn’t generous with perfect timing, and love doesn’t always get advance notice.

So this is the lesson Maia left behind in the softest way:

Don’t wait for urgency to teach you what devotion already knows.

Photograph the healthy years. The silly years. The “nothing special happened today” years. Because those days are the story. Those days become the ones you reach for later, not just with memory, but with your whole chest.

Maia was one of a kind.

Not because she tried to be.

But because she gave us exactly who she was—every day, for as long as she could—and that turned out to be more than enough to change the shape of our lives.

And even now, with all the good dogs we’ve loved and will love again, her name still feels like home

Roxy has always had a gentle way of turning ordinary moments into something you want to keep.

And here she is—standing in the soft grass like a little heart with paws, taking in the world with that calm, steady dignity that only dogs seem to master. The sky is muted and kind, the trees holding the background like a comforting hush, and Roxy looks exactly like she belongs to this peaceful pocket of time.

She isn’t rushing. She isn’t asking for much.

Just a little fresh air, a little space to be curious, and the comfort of knowing her person is nearby.

There’s something quietly brave about dogs like Roxy. They show up for the day with a soft strength—ready for the simple joys, ready for love, ready to make you feel like everything is going to be okay.

This is one of those moments you don’t realize is a memory until you look back.

But Roxy does.

She makes sure you feel it while it’s happening.

Roxy has always had a quiet kind of magic.

The kind that doesn’t need to be loud to be felt.

She’ll find a soft patch of grass, settle in like the world was made for gentle moments, and tilt her face toward the sky as if she’s listening for something only she can hear. Maybe it’s the breeze. Maybe it’s a distant bird. Maybe it’s just the peaceful hum of being safe, loved, and exactly where she belongs.

Roxy reminds us that life isn’t only made of big milestones. It’s made of small, golden seconds too—slow breaths, warm air, and the comfort of knowing you’re not alone.

And if you’re lucky enough to love a dog like her, you start to notice those little moments more.

Because Roxy doesn’t just rest in the grass.

She softens the whole day around her.

Bodhi watched the world turn to gold, ears tuned to the smallest sounds, heart steady and sure. In the hush of sunset, with the day melting into warm light around him, he wasn’t just a dog in a field—he was a little soul holding a whole universe of love in his gaze.

Meet the Eurohound (a.k.a. Scandinavian Hound). Not a registered “breed” but a purpose-bred athlete: a cross between an Alaskan Husky and a Pointer, created in Scandinavia for pure speed and power on the sled trails.

Fun Facts! ⤵️

“Eurohound = husky heart + pointer zoomies.”

Eurohounds were developed in Norway/Sweden in the 1980s
• Mushers wanted dogs that could outrun traditional racing dogs in sprint and mid-distance sled races
• The name “Eurohound” was popularized by sled-dog experts in Alaska as these European lines started winning races worldwide.

Personality
• Super friendly and people-oriented
• Very intelligent and eager to work
• Extremely high energy – they need a job (sledding, skijoring, bikejoring, canicross, serious running partner, etc.)
• Usually good with other dogs; can be too much for quiet or low-energy pets
• Strong prey drive is common, so cats and wildlife may be tempting targets

Great fit for:
• Active homes that love distance running, mushing, or dog sports
• People who enjoy training and mental enrichment
• Different pointer % = different jobs:
• More Pointer → short coat, top-speed sprint racer
• More Husky → thicker coat, better for longer-distance races in deep cold
• Many top Nordic and North American racing kennels run Eurohound teams in elite competition

These incredible dogs were designed to fly over snow and trail, and somehow still have energy left for cuddles. Do you think you could keep up with one?”

Did you know?

Italian Greyhounds were bred to be royal lapdogs —
which explains why Sunday walks like he owns the land,
expects snacks on demand, and believes grass was put here for his delicate royal toes. | | | | | | | |
