PLEASE if you are rehoming a pet, please do your due diligence.
Makes me so sad.
Copied:
When rehoming a pet, it's crucial to ask potential adopters about their experience with pets, living situation, and ability to provide for the pet's needs. You should also inquire about their understanding of your pet's personality and history to ensure a good match.
Here's a breakdown of key questions to ask:
1. Experience and Ability to Care:
Experience:
Have they owned pets before, and if so, what kind and for how long?
Do they have experience with pets of similar size, age, or breed?
Living Situation:
Do they own or rent their home?
Is there a yard, and if so, is it fenced?
Are there any restrictions on pets in their home?
Financial Commitment:
Are they able to afford veterinary care, including preventative care and potential emergencies?
Can they afford to provide nutritious food, toys, and other necessities?
Are they aware of the ongoing costs of pet ownership?
2. Understanding of Your Pet:
Personality and Temperament:
Are they aware of your pet's specific personality quirks, likes, and dislikes?
Do they understand if your pet has any behavioral issues (e.g., anxiety, fear) and are they willing to work with it?
Health History:
Are they aware of any known health conditions, allergies, or dietary restrictions?
Are they comfortable with the possibility of needing veterinary care in the future?
History:
Have they been told about your pet's past experiences, including any potential trauma or training?
Are they willing to be patient and understanding during the transition period?
3. Other Considerations:
Other Pets:
Do they have other pets, and if so, what kind and how large are they?
Have they considered how your pet might interact with other animals in the household?
Family:
Do they have children, and if so, are they old enough and responsible enough to interact with your pet?
Home Check:
Are they willing to allow a home check to ensure the environment is safe and suitable for your pet?
Commitment:
Are they truly committed to providing a loving and long-term home for your pet?
Are they open to staying in touch and providing updates on your pet's well-being?
By asking these questions and carefully evaluating the answers, you can increase your chances of finding a good home for your pet and ensure a happy and fulfilling new life for them.
* ask for 3 personal references on addition to a vet reference.
Also BE HONEST with regards to your pets needs/behaviors. Painting a 'prettier' picture or not being 100% honest is doing an injustice to your pet.
