Another day well spent showing horses.
Big thank you to Muddy River for creating a fun, positive, learning environment for the kids to work on their skills and have a good time together!
To say I’m proud of the teams is an understatement. First falls, lame ponies resulting in impromptu swaps, reserve champions in two divisions, new best times, cobalt came out of retirement for some confidence boosting and first time event for two riders! Every single team member rolled with the punches and pulled out some beautiful rounds. Thank you to our grooms and parents and every member who makes this team everything that it is.
I got a sun burn and I’m ready for a nap but days are never wasted on this crew! Blessed.

All smiles for the first show of the season. Once again for another year this wouldn’t be possible without an excellent group of riders, grooms, parents, show staff and community. It’s so incredibly rewarding to watch the team take care of their ponies and each other and to see their hard work pay off. I’m so proud of their sportsmanship and their horses excellent behaviours today. Everyone was super and rode out the rain like champs!

Competitive rider, pony trainer, horse owner, and advocate for a very important cause. Today we are recognizing a message too often missed or overlooked. Often you’ll see this little member of our team riding her little pony chasing cans against the big horses but today she wears a red dress and covers her mouth. Though she will not be silenced. She speaks for her sisters who cannot. She represents red dress day. May 5th 2025 bringing awareness to the missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. Please take a moment to educate yourself on the topic or reflect on what it means to wear red today. We’re so proud of this one and all that she is doing in support of her indigenous sisters past and present.

Let’s talk about competitive grooms.
What is the role of a show groom?
Assist with horse welfare and care
Assist riders in knowing their patterns sometimes calling for riders
Watching for p**p in the arenas, mucking out trailer/stalls
Runner for coaches and riders between arenas, trailer and barn
Grooming and tack horses
Holding horses between classes, for tacking or while rider needs to perform other duties
Assisting with rider turn out entering the arena
Braiding, banding, clipping or otherwise turning out horses
Can give pep talks and cheer riders on with encouraging statements about their rides

In saying that, grooms are not slaves. They are not there to take all of your responsibilities away for hours or days. As the rider you are the primary person in charge of your horse, your warm up and your rides. Grooms are an added bonus but should never tolerate being bossed around, talked down to or being bullied.
Having grooms at shows is a wonderful privilege and we are so fortunate to have a team that wants to collaborate on and off horses at competitions our grooms are here to make our show days run smooth, on time and provide extra hands so I don’t have to run around like a psychotic headless chicken. As someone who has been in the competitive equestrian environment as coach, rider, trainer, pick up rider, groom and ring crew/set up, I have always admired the role of a good groom and their contributions to a successful round or day.
Thank goodness for our grooms 😁👏
Some food for thought heading into the season.
