Most of you will know about the positive horse for herpes virus 1, the neurological form, in Alberta. There have also been 2 positive horses in Texas. Not sure if they are related.
This is a reminder that the vaccine we have is mostly efficacious against the respiratory form of the disease, not so much against the neurologic form. However, better some protection than none…
Don’t forget to vaccinate according to your own risk of exposure.

This is an interesting paper showing that allowing horses to say good bye to their deceased partners is a good way for them to grieve better. I am often asked whether or not to let the others come and see the deceased horse (which I do) and now we have data supporting that.
