25 years I happened upon Lowchen. This delightful breed has stolen my heart and now some 12 years later I cannot imagine my life without them. Lowchen are still a rare breed and one that has not gained the same popularity as it's cousin the Havanese, most likely due to the show clip, which for those of us that love the breed, is a defining feature of these little clown like dogs. For my cover page I am featuring a full coated Lowchen which will remind many of a miniature Bearded Collie or Tibetan Terrier in looks only.

We're sadly here again with this beautiful, loving Löwchen boy — full of charm, personality, and cuddles. He’s the perfect age to bond with his new family, well socialized, and adores people.

While perfect in every way that matters, he has a small imperfection that means he can’t be part of our breeding program. He briefly joined a wonderful family, but their young son’s allergies sadly made it impossible for him to stay. While Löwchen is a breed that can be tolerated by many with dog allergies, we are very sad for this little boy and his family that it didn't work out for them.

We’re hoping to find his forever family here in Canada, as puppies can’t be imported to the U.S. until they are six months old, and we want him settled and loved right away.

This sweet boy deserves a home where he can finally unpack his little suitcase of toys and stay for good.

Lucky, named to reflect how fortunate we were to have in our home even for a brief moment to be a companion to our son and without a doubt my husband and I. Lucky quickly earned a spot in our heart with his compassion, love for children and desire to be part of a family. He’s calm, playful and the most easy going pup we have ever met. You earn his trust with the simple scope of kibble and with treats he will follow commands like no other. He’s crate trained and loves to go “night night”, he will run into that crate and wait for you to close the door so he can snuggle with his stuffies. Yes, he is still learning and yearns to be taught. For the most part he is trained to wait at the back door and whimper to go outside. Yes, he needs redirection, slippers and sandles can be seen as toys. However, if your sandals falls and gets away from you, he will be the one to gather and return it to you. Anyone who seeks this little boy will be fortunate to have him. It was suppose to be us but our son’s allergies is giving another family the opportunity to see how wonderful he is. Truly a gem, Linda and Gillian have done wonderful things with this pup

An Update Regarding CKC’s Advocacy Work on the CDC Dog Importation Rule

Dear CKC Members,

We would like to provide an update regarding the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Dog Importation Rule, implemented in August 2024. In December 2024, we shared that CDC planned to revisit the dog importation rule and propose revisions and certifications to the existing requirements in early 2025. Due to the evolving political climate between Canada and the United States (U.S.), significant changes and reductions at the CDC and other U.S. government priorities taking precedence, CDC’s review of the dog importation rule has not yet taken place.

We remain concerned that many of you are negatively impacted by the CDC dog importation rule, and we continue to advocate for responsible CKC members who travel with/transport their Canadian-born, CKC registered dogs, and who work across borders to improve canine health, diversify breeding programs, utilize veterinary services, and participate in sporting and goodwill events.

We remain in regular contact with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to stay informed on this important matter. In October 2024, we sent a letter to CDC and copied the CFIA. In our letter, we urged CDC to recognize the unique and low-risk profile of Canadian-born, CKC-registered dogs and grant an exception to the current U.S. import requirement of a 6-month minimum age for dogs. Following the letter, we reached out to AKC regarding CDC’s plan to revisit the dog importation rule and shared that the 6-month minimum age requirement continues to disproportionately impact CKC members and their Canadian born, registered dogs. More recently, we have also advocated to CFIA regarding this matter, however currently, neither the CDC nor the U.S. Government is engaging on this matter. While the current political situation restricts our ability to affect change with CDC’s dog importation rule, we continue to advocate on behalf of our members and engage CFIA and relevant U.S. stakeholders also impacted by the CDC rule, to influence change.

Let’s Talk About Boys… the Four-Legged Kind! 🐶

So, the age-old question popped up again recently — “Do you have any girl puppies?” And I get it! For some animals, the s*x does make a difference. But when it comes to our delightful little Löwchen, let me tell you — the boys are absolutely dreamy.

Over the years as a breeder, I’ve had both boys and girls. But here’s the fun twist: my mama dogs seem to have a secret club where they’ve all agreed to deliver more boys than girls. Maybe they’re trying to tell us something? Like, “Hey human, trust me — these boys are extra special!”

And you know what? They’re right. The boys are total lovebugs. Loyal, snuggly, and sweet as pie. I can’t count the number of people who started out saying, “I only want a girl,” and ended up head-over-heels in love with a boy. It’s like they come with built-in charm (and maybe a sprinkle of magic).

So here’s my question to all of you wonderful Lowchen families:
If you have a boy at home (yes, one with a pencil 📝 if you catch my drift!), what’s your experience been like? And for those who’ve had both — are girls really that different? I’d love to hear your stories!

Honestly, I think the “only girls, please” mindset is a bit of leftover thinking from the days when unneutered boys were off serenading the neighbourhood and redecorating the shrubs. These days, with responsible ownership, our boys are total gentlemen.

So don’t be afraid to fall for a little fella — he just might be the best decision you didn’t know you needed. 💕

REMINDER!!! It's time to start planning your Canadian trip! We are still waiting for the premium list to be approved but here's a hint, we have all international Judges on the panel, including one from Australia. 😀

The Erie Shores Kennel Club is known for hosting fantastic shows and this year is no exception, Friday, June 7th, there is a Bred by Exhibitor Competition, Brace Class and Complimentary BBQ and supported entry for Löwchen! Saturday is our NATIONAL - a full day of fun. Starting with a Booster in the morning, Pet Parade starting at 1 pm followed by Sweeps and then the big event! After the show we are hosting a get-together at the campgrounds for all. Sunday the fun continues with the Best of the Specialties show where the winner of our National will be entered and compete for cash prizes. 1st prize is $1500! Monday isn't going to disappoint as they are holding a special All breed Show with Baby Puppy, Altered and Veteran classes being offered, the Owner Handler competition with CASH PRIZES and an All Breed Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes.

AND for those of you with second breeds, Thursday is designated for Specialties only. Which breeds? Keep tuned! We'll be posting the list as soon as it's available. (I did hear Whippets for one!)

Plan on sticking around Sunday night and join us back at the campsite for a Canadian style farewell campfire complete with S'mores!
