Welcome to Clarknberg kennel,
We are a small hobby breeder of German Shepherd Dogs (German workinglines and American showlines) in British Columbia, Canada. We breed for sound solid nerves, prey and retrieve drives, tracking abilities, with well-balanced character, stable temperaments and sound conformation. Clarknberg german shepherds are correct in structure, highly intelligent, and trainable.

Here our dogs are raised inside with us, puppies grow up around a number of exotic and non exotic animals from parrots, ferrets, cats, to livestock such as horses, cows, sheep and poultry. We raised through puppy culture to insure our puppies get the best experience while here with us and are easily adaptable when move to their new homes. All our breeding dogs are proven work ability or titled and health tested. At Clarknberg kennels we also offer in-home training specializing in Service work and Obedience. Puppy buyers are welcome to purchase extra training for their puppies to stay additional time or enjoy Skype training calls and for our clients whom want to send dogs for training or meets ups. Kara has a happy personality with high energy and drive. She prefers the company of her people rather than being social, Kara has proven workability on bite work but is not titled as of yet.

Gator was sired by the legendary SG Olsen vom Leipheimer Moor, SchH3, OFA HD-Excellent, bred by the legend himself, Elmar Mannes.
Gator himself, was professionally trained by a world level handler, Roland Haselmaier of the famous Kennel vom Haus Pixner. Roland described Gator as a hard dog, with good drives, and solid nerves, resembling the ‘old type’ WGWL dogs.

Very excited to see how this litter develops and implements their genetics into all they do.

Zara von der sigiselibe is confirmed to be pregnant with Caro Juval Sport.
Full working line litter, expecting medium/high drive, sound minds, happy neutral temperaments, eager to please with a strong scent capabilities.

This litter will have prospects for SAR, Scent detection, IGP, and active companions.
Half siblings in Canada and the US doing well in SAR, Narcotics, IGP and a few in service homes!
This is a shared/split litter with Zara's new handler/owner in Ontario, BC.

We will be raising and whelping this litter here in house and be under 'Clarknberg'

All of our pups are raised in puppy culture & Avidog. Started on early scent protocols at 3 days old.
We focus our breeding on correct Conformation, working ability in scent and herding.
They socialize with a number of different things from animals to equipment.
I own livestock, exotics, cats and of course my other dogs.
At the age of weaning(3-3.5wks) we start introducing high quality kibble(Open farm) and raw. By the time they go to their new homes they have eaten and trialed over 13 different proteins. Examples: rabbit, boar, salmon, trout, quail, turkey, elk, bison, goat, kangaroo etc)
At 7.5wks they go through two Temperament tests Volhard and PAWS

All our puppies are CKC Reg, Dewormed (at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age), age appropriate vaccinations, health clearance with a health certificate from our veterinary clinic, 30 days Trupanion insurance, and we have goodies/puppy package that goes with them as well. It includes things like a leash/collar/poop bags/pedigree/about me(the pup and his/her lineage), toys, starter bag of food/box of raw for those who want it but not mandatory and coupons!

She's good with other dogs (though she can be a pest), good with cats, and has had no issues with my exotics.
Solid recall.
She has high energy. She is not a sit around and do nothing. She is eager to please, has great athletic abilities and can clear 5.5ft fence with ease.

She has been around livestock and poultry and showed great potential in herding.

Ruby is great with kids!

An observation is that I see more short underchests than I once did in SC and LSC.

A short underchest in a working dog affects far more than appearance, it can limit core physical function.

The underchest forms part of the thoracic cavity, which houses the heart, lungs, and diaphragm. When this area is too short or shallow, there’s simply less room for these vital organs to function efficiently. A restricted chest cavity can reduce the space available for the heart, limiting its capacity to circulate blood effectively during exertion. The lungs also have less room to expand, and the diaphragm has less freedom to move, all of which restrict oxygen intake and endurance.

This internal limitation often leads to external imbalance. A short underchest shifts the body’s centre of gravity forward, making the forehand appear light and the dog less grounded. That imbalance carries through the spine and affects the musculature of the loins, an area that plays a key role in transferring drive from the hindquarters. If the muscles of the loins are compromised or overcompensating due to poor balance, the dog loses efficiency in rear drive and overall movement.

For a working dog, stamina, strength, and coordination are everything. A short underchest can quietly undermine all three, reducing performance, increasing fatigue, and raising the risk of long-term strain or injury.

Why is health testing important and why should puppy buyers care?

Incorporating comprehensive health testing into any breeding program is of paramount importance, as it serves to significantly mitigate the risk of propagating hereditary conditions and genetic diseases to future generations. By proactively identifying potential health concerns prior to breeding, responsible breeders are empowered to make well-informed decisions regarding the selection of breeding pairs, thereby promoting the creation of healthier, more robust offspring.
For puppy buyers, this commitment to health testing is equally vital, as it provides assurance that their new companion is less likely to develop debilitating genetic disorders, reducing potential veterinary expenses and enhancing the overall quality of life for both the dog and its owners.

Of course with anything in life health testing reduces the risk but does not eliminate the possibility of health problems entirely. In essence, health testing is a valuable tool in responsible breeding, but it is not a guarantee of complete freedom from health problems.

You can find all of our breeding dogs test results in our health testing album and online via OFA, we do not do a majority of our health test till 24months.
