What an honour it is to be able to grow such beauty for our community?!

Story time: We bought our property late in 2020 and it a little acre right on the edge and kind of in between a bunch of farm land. It’s in the ALR and I knew that I wanted to have a big garden of some sorts. I was incredibly inspired by and all that they do for our community and I started a veggie garden.. however, I quickly realized that farming veggies didn’t actually bring me a whole lot of joy - hear me out..

I still grow veggies for our family and that brings me a lot of joy and I encourage everyone to grow food for themselves in whatever scale possible.

The creative in me was so drawn to flowers, the colour, the texture, playing with and arranging of them..

And that is why my friends, 2026 will be a full on flower year.. I’ve doubled my tulips, quadrupled my dahlias, saved seeds from last year, am building a walk in cooler for storage and will be expanding the garden once again..

So thank you to everyone that has found my little yellow truck on Rutland rd or follows along on this journey - I’m so happy you’re here!

Anyone else out there obsessed with taking cuttings from herbs that are treated as annuals in colder zones (Zone 5 over here) to get a head start on next years growing?

Two of my favourites are Rosemary and Basil!

Rosemary: take a 6-8” cutting and strip the bottom few inches of leaves off. Place in a jar of water indoors in a window and wait for roots to appear (usually a couple weeks). Next you can grab a small pot and add some soil and pop your rosemary in and keep it on a window ledge (I have a plant shelf by a window) and give it water when the top inch or two of the soil is dry! Plant them outdoors in the garden next spring once warm enough

Basil: Basically the same but when making your cut you want to cut above a lower leaf node and again strip any leaves below that off.

Tips: change your water every few days while waiting for them to root

Happy planting :)

As the nights turn cooler and the fields slowly quiet, I’m reminded of how fleeting and beautiful each and every season is here in the Okanagan.

The blooms may be winding down, but my heart is so full, because every bouquet, every visit, every kind word from this community has made this season possible.

Thank you for being part of this journey, for supporting local flowers, and for reminding me daily why I love growing and creating.

Here’s to soaking up these last few weeks of color before we tuck the fields in for their winter rest.

A little recap on the summer of Petals and Poses - we have one last session tomorrow evening and it’s been such an honour to host these events!

As summer is winding down and I start to think about clean up on the farm, I’m also already planning for next year. This is an event that will definitely be back.. and dare I say some more events?? Live music? Pottery class? What should we do?

Thank you to everyone that has supported and continues to support this little dream of mind. The possibilities are endless - stay tuned!
