Veteran dogs (age 7+)
These are the animals we should be doing the serious judging in the Ckc and Akc.
Dogs that can be conformation correct, move properly and have a good temperament as a veteran should always be taken more seriously than a young dog.
Seems most the time our clubs and judges quite often just look at veterans as "side show bob". But your veterans are a true testament to your kennels' breeding qualities and achievements.
Not the volume of dogs we breed, but the quality and longevity.
Young dogs are our future breeders and our hopes for the future, but our veterans are the "proof is in the pudding".
Veterans should always be judged more seriously than any other age of dog.
For most of us breeders, look back upon the pedigrees before we choose to breed a dog.
Preferably, freeze your dogs semen at age 2 - 6. But, choose your stud wisely by seeing the veterans the breeder has owned, or owns.
Just some thoughts.
