Just as no two snowflakes are alike, no two groups are the same. As we wind August down, we reflect on another great clinic this past week. We had the opportunity to ride with some old friends and make some new ones. We worked on C**t Starting-Restart, Halter Breaking, Horsemanship, Cross Heels, Cutting Flag, Classroom/theory.
We never take for granted that we get to do this and we appreciate each and every participant and horse that passes through our gate. 🩵

A Friend Like That

Frosty the Snowman once said, one friend is better than none
Our hope is that we can find one, before our time is done
A friend who’s there when you need them, who always steps up to the bat
My hope for you, is that you can find a friend like that

In a room full of folks with a mean tongue, who’s words can slice and hack
your friend steps up to defend you, when it’s done behind your back
When push comes to shove face-to-face, and it comes down to a spat
Your friend will be there and I hope, you can find you a friend like that

A friend my have known you since youth, or only several years
But they’ve seen you through some happy times and also through some tears
A friend who is there when you need them, that is where it’s at
You only need one friend in a lifetime, if you have a friend like that

My dad’s friend had turned 91 and on his deathbed he lie
No family around to be there, and sit with him while he die
My dad as a friend did the right thing, and there at his bedside he sat
My wish for you in this lifetime, is you’ll have a friend like that

Aug 20,21,22 Semi Private Clinic! A participant wrote “ these clinics provide an outstanding environment to learn and cultivate friendships and the horses ALWAYS win…” these words mean a lot to us, and this is the exact environment that we try so hard to create. We couldn’t do it without the kind of people that come here, share their time with us as well as their amazing energy.

Last week was no exception! Outstanding group!
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
Till next year, same place, same time - good luck and good horsemanship 🩵

Aug 13,14,15 SEMI PRIVATE Clinic was a great group. Each group is unique, which makes each group different. Mother nature dealt us quite a bit of moisture to deal with which we are thankful for but made for some soggy conditions.

Always neat to see people from all different ages and skill levels come together and all walk away, having improved on their horsemanship and their selves. We enjoyed you all and wishing you a wonderful rest of your summer.

As we come down the back stretch of our clinic season, we have two clinics here remaining.

Here is a poem I wrote about 5 years ago. I thought I’d share it.

Inside The Horse’s Eye

By John Tilley

Inside the horse’s eye there is a story
The truth behind all his doubt and worry
The teller of the future and the past
Inside the horse’s eye that is so vast

Inside the horse’s eye there is his strength
The try and will to go the extra length
Inside the horse’s eye is reservation
It shows the proof of his self preservation

Inside the horse’s eye you’ll see his soul
The trouble from a past that’s took it’s toll
Inside the horse’s eye you’ll see a smile
Put there by a human, who went the extra mile

Inside the horse’s eye there is a riddle
That leads you to the key inside his middle
If you want to know the answer or the reason why
Take a long hard caring look inside the horse’s eye

Sweaty Horses

By the old log barn we sat face to face
Grandpa said this once was a busy place
When sweaty horses walked up this road
After they’d hauled off many a load

We looked at the clay plastered over the wood
From the 1920’s and still looking good
A roof still sealed, like a fine roof should
Over the place, sweaty horses once stood

I could almost hear the harness jingle
As the ghosts of the ancestors presence mingle
As they laid the lines up on tired backs
And they poured out some grain from an old gunny sack

He said it’s sad that those days have passed
We both agreed that nothing lasts
No one can stop the changes life forces
As we both sat and dreamed of ol sweaty horses

The dogs would bark when evening had came
you’d listen quiet on down the lane
Sleigh bells coming from north, east or west
Evenings with neighbours, always the best

At twelve years old, he held the lines
And raked the rows at haying time
When the bees stung the team and they ran away
Old memories linger and hang on today

Sweaty horses, aren’t a sin
If not used hard and over thin
necessity and family pride
Used for both to ride and drive

As we sat by the barn in a side by side
I think we both knew what we’d rather ride
We are surrounded by life’s modern resources
But we still mourn the passing of ol sweaty horses
