I want to extend the biggest of thank-yous to every single person who reached out to receive a poppy charm, who shared posts, took photos and even just spread the word.
This year I sent out just over 400 (four hundred!) poppy charms that went on everything from people to horses, cows, sheep and dogs. Receiving photos and visiting the Royal to see it all in person was beautiful to see and this year added a little more emotion behind it.
I've had people ask why I started doing this and here's the explanation:
Growing up, my father never missed a remembrance assembly and always took me with him to the Canadian Warplane Museum where we would listen to veteran stories and then listen in awe as the Lancaster would roar overheard at 11am during the moment of silence. My dad was passionate about teaching past wars and being thankful for the sacrifices made to have the freedom and choices we have today.
I had the idea for the charms last year and I mentioned it to him - he loved it and encouraged it. When I handed out over 80 charms last year, he was thrilled and wanted to see the many photos I was sent. This summer he asked me if I was going to do it again and I said of course!
Unfortunately this year, that great man passed away October 12th. So in the best way I could honor his memory, I wanted to get even MORE poppy charms out. And thanks to all of you, I did! I have a feeling if I showed my dad all these photos and that over 400 were sent out, there would've been some tears 😉
So from the bottom of my heart - Thank you, everyone. Spend this Remembrance Day with your loved ones, give them the biggest of hugs.. and Lest We Forget ❤️
