🌻🐝 Pollinators at Work in the Flour Mill Community Farm! 🦋🥒
Our garden is thriving — and we have our pollinators to thank for it! 🌿
This week, we’ve spotted bees hard at work inside our zucchini flowers and a monarch butterfly visiting blooms around the farm. These small creatures play a huge role in keeping our garden growing strong.
✨ What is pollination?
Pollination happens when pollen is transferred from one part of a flower to another — it’s what allows plants to produce fruits and seeds. While some plants are wind-pollinated, many of the foods we eat depend on insect pollinators to get the job done.
🐝 Bees are responsible for pollinating around 1/3 of the food we eat. Zucchinis, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, peppers — all benefit from bee visits!
🦋 Monarch butterflies and other pollinators like flies, beetles, and hummingbirds also help fertilize plants as they feed on nectar.
🌍 Pollinators are essential not just for gardens, but for entire ecosystems and food systems. That’s why we care for our plants without harmful pesticides, and grow native flowers to help support pollinator habitats.
Let’s keep growing with gratitude — for the people and pollinators who make it all possible! 💚
