Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters

Today, we wear orange to honor the children who were taken from their families and placed in residential schools, many of whom never returned home. We remember the survivors, their stories, and the intergenerational trauma that continues to affect Indigenous communities.

Orange Shirt Day is not just about remembrance, it’s about truth, healing, and reconciliation. It’s a time to reflect on the injustices of the past and commit to building a future rooted in respect, understanding, and equity.

Let’s listen to Indigenous voices, support their leadership, and educate ourselves and others. Change begins with awareness and awareness begins with us.

Every Child Matters.

Pet dog training and behavior counseling is complex, with two species - minimum - involved, modern life and its challenges for families, and our responsibility to be stewards of the public safety as well as the welfare of dogs. We feel it is imperative to thoroughly train our practitioners for this profession and to then properly support them once they go into practice. It's how we earned our reputation.

A warm Auntie Jessie welcome to this cutie pup! His name is Oakley, at the time the photo was taken he was 9 weeks old. Making him the youngest member of Auntie Jessie's extended family. It was love at first sight (or sniff.)

Oakley's guardians signed him up for Auntie Jessie's puppy visits. During this time we focus on training important life skills:
🐾 Biting inhibition
🐾 Body handling
🐾 Socalization
🐾 Recall
🐾 Impulse control exercises
🐾 Potty Training & so much more

Oakley is fortunate to have a family to love him and want to give him the best foundation possible. Auntie Jessie is thrilled to be part of the team.

Wishing everyone a happy thursday

Happy weekend! (Warning: proud dog mom moments ahead)

George has been making incredible progress with his canine socialization. This past week has made this dog mom's heart so happy. Watching his unbridled joy during play is food for the soul.

Thanks to his new friend Jayce, George finally got to wrestle at the dog park. A few days later, we visited where he ran full speed with his buddy Astro — what a sight!

To top it off, Queen Meadow Rose has graciously hosted us since September 4th, helping George learn how to live with another dog. He’s figured out that Meadow will play, as long as there’s no contact. It’s absolutely adorable to watch.

George met Jayce last Sunday through the fence at the Trafalgar rd dog park. They chased each other along the fence line, both frustrated by the barrier. When Jayce’s guardian asked if they could join us, we discussed play histories, styles, and George’s fear of people before deciding to introduce them.

I always take on the role of referee during dog play. George can get overstimulated and forget how strong he is, which sometimes leads other dogs to tell him to ā€œfluff off.ā€ That’s why consent tests and play breaks are such an important part of the protocol.

Once George figured out Jayce’s preferred play style, the two of them had a blast! They wrestled until we wrapped up the session to share the space with others. Wrestling is George’s favourite way to play, he hadn’t had the opportunity until Jayce.

Considering how loud and physical they were at the start, I’m sure the other dog park visitors thought we were nuts šŸ˜…. They did not know about my experience or profession. I have been introducing dogs and monitoring play for 18 years.

Until next time,
🐾 Auntie Jessie and George

The busy volunteers, vendors, and staff have been setting up the fair. George and I took advantage of the socialization and training opportunities this time has to offer.

We picked an open area, making sure to give ourselves plenty of space. George had lots of time to acclimate to the new environment. With so many new sights, scents, and sounds, it was important to take things slowly and let George’s behaviour dictate the pace of our training plan.

Our goal was to walk around the track while observing our surroundings and creating positive associations with the new stimuli. By the time we reached the petting zoo, we were given permission to spend some time around the livestock.

I had the chance to compare George to the cows at the petting zoo, and I can testify he blends right in! He definitely suits the nickname ā€œCowboyā€ā€”especially when the wind lifts his ears 🤣.

Wishing everyone a Happy Friday and a fun-filled weekend!

Sometimes life has surprises or in Phillip & Penny's case some renovations. Which is how they ended up as extra guests during Leo & Dixie's Auntie Jessie visits. It was a pleasure to get to know and care for them while their family was at work. We made the most of the time we had together, ofcourse they captured my heart.

Philip is 15 years young and enjoys the finer things in life. Miss Penny is a social butterfly and a cookie monster. Although I did my best to pet all four dogs at once, I did not have enough hands šŸ˜…. Like her cousin Dixie, Miss Penny always knew where my treat pouch was. Even if it was on a counter three feet above her head.

To my valued clients, thank you for choosing me to work with your furry family members. Thank you for trusting me in your homes and sharing your pets with me. As any Auntie would, I can't help but fall in love.
