While many of us have been fortunate this summer that the current wildfire season hasn't been as extreme as ones in the recent past, the effects of wildfire smoke on our horses is always on our mind this time of year.

In an effort to support the respiratory systems of our horses we stock a few items that specifically target these needs.

Mad Barn NOCR is a new product, released earlier this year, that is an all natural respiratory supplement formulated to help horses breathe easily and perform at their best. Do you know the correct way to store farm feed? Hint, it's not in the back of your car, especially during a heat wave. 😆

Correct feed storage practices are crucial for maintaining feed quality, preventing spoilage, and ensuring animal health. Key aspects include maintaining a cool, dry, and secure environment, using appropriate containers, and implementing pest control measures. Regular cleaning and maintenance of storage areas are also essential.

Common feed storage ideas that check all the above boxes can include: Chest freezers, metal trash bins with animal proof lids, metal drums, or indoors away from pets. Similar type plastic containers are easy to clean and to transport but are not rodent proof and will need to be checked regularly for signs of rodent damage.

While we are under a heat warning for the next few days, keeping our animals, and ourselves, fully hydrated should be a top priority.

Hydration is crucial for maintaining overall health and well being, and is essential for many of the body's functions.

For pets, keeping them hydrated can include offering them multiple water sources around their home or enclosure, ensuring water is fresh and clean at all times, or adding wet food to their diets.

On the farm, ensuring hydration can look like increasing water stations so that younger or weaker animals won't have their water access restricted by bossier animals, moving waters to shaded areas, offering frozen fruits or veggies as a snack, and also regularly cleaning and changing the waters to keep the water fresh will encourage animals to drink more.

Many thanks to our lovely customer Tracy for bringing this beautiful bouquet to the Lumby location. We all appreciate them, including Cyd! Don't worry, we are keeping this bouquet away from Cyd when not supervised to ensure that he won't eat any of these gorgeous flowers.

We talk a lot about plants that are unsafe for cats, but what about plants that are safe for cats?

The girls in the Lumby store have been hard at work getting our trusty steed, Rusty, cleaned up, out of storage, and ready to display some of the season's best products for you.

Rusty is sporting the Tough-1 PVC Coated Mesh Tri-Shield Fly Sheet. This sheet provides your horse with protection from bugs, dust, and sun. Made from tightly woven 1000 denier PVC coated mesh, it allows your horse to stay cool from the sun by allowing their body heat to be released as cooler air flows through. Features include: double buckle front, fleece wither protection, adjustable and replaceable leg straps, adjustable single surcingle belly, and brass plated hardware.

Rusty is also wearing a Padded Nylon Halter in Turquoise. They are fully adjustable, with premium hardware, and padding on the noseband and crownpiece.
