Last week I was incredibly humbled to open an email and find out I’ve been nominated for Veterinary Professional of the Year in the Trupanion Veterinary Appreciation Day® Awards… which still feels a bit surreal to write, if I’m honest.
Fur Ability is truly a labour of love. I can’t quite believe how much it has grown in just three short years. I love the community that’s been built here, and from the beginning it has always been about the patients first—earning trust (often very slowly and with a lot of snacks), working my way into their inner circle, and helping them feel safe enough to try, move, and heal.
Anyone who’s been here knows it’s not always glamorous. There’s a lot of floor sitting, negotiating with stubborn or scared (but very cute) patients, A LOT of fur, and celebrating the smallest wins like they’re Olympic achievements. You lot are more than clients—you’re friends, and sometimes (as you tell me) I end up being your therapist too. I try to make sure you feel involved every step of the way, helping you understand your pet and be part of their care.
So this nomination really feels like it belongs just as much to the animals who let me in, and the humans who trust me with them.
I’m incredibly grateful to be able to do this work every day—and to be part of such a supportive, slightly chaos-filled, animal-loving community ❤️
The awards are community-driven, which makes this even more meaningful. If you’d like to follow along (or take part and vote), you can do so here:
