We're pretty excited about this litter! Picard is due June 8th, 2025 with her first litter. Picard is athletic, healthy, always wants to please, and is happy every single day. This girl has never met a stranger since she instantly loves everyone and her enthusiasm is boundless! She has so many fans. If you follow us, you know that she is Shawn's shadow and they are the cutest couple when doing agility or just hanging out. She's a cuddly and talkative little turkey and I'll admit I was surprised when she also wanted to help move the sheep. She's remarkably good, with admittedly no training in that department. She's just so keen to please. Picard is BAER tested normal hearing, her eyes tested normal/normal by a board certified Veterinary ophthalmologist, her hips are OFA Good and her shoulders and elbows are OFA normal and she is tested completely clear for all 213 diseases tested for on the Wisdom Panel.
We were really particular about a stud dog for Picard. We wanted something different. We wanted a talented and sensible working dog who was level headed, who also had a great personality and an off switch when not working. We wanted all of that and we needed health and genetic clearances as well. And Ace delivered on all counts!
Here is what Ace's owner says about him: Ace has a strong will to please, stays focused, forward with a medium eye and is ready to work at the drop of a hat. He has no quit in him and will give it his all until he gets it right. He thinks on his own while still being a good partner on the field and taking commands. He is kind and honest when on stock. The one thing I do love is that he is just a little less extra and a little more thoughtful. It’s a really nice combination with his drive when he is engaged. His enthusiasm and fun-loving attitude is so much fun to be around and work with, he hasn’t got a mean bone in his body. This dog has a spirit like very few other dogs and he will make friends anywhere and everywhere he goes. His offspring are actively competing in sports and working on cow and sheep operations.
Ace's hips were tested using the PennHip system and his score is: 0.32/0.30, which is considered very good for Border Collies and he is also clear on his Optimal Selection panel that tests for genetic diseases.
We were struck by how polite and friendly Ace was and boy oh boy, he's a handsome devil too! We expect some stunning puppies from this combination! Both Picard and Ace also carry red, so we could have a very interesting mix of colours from this litter.

We have a wait list, but we should have room for a few more. If you're interested let us know about what you're looking for in a dog, what life would look like for a pup as a part of your family and what you plan to do with the pup for a job.

As with all of our pups, they will be Canadian Border Collie Association registered and have first vaccines, have been dewormed several times, been vet checked and been mircochipped.

Stay tuned for pictures and updates!

I've gotten away from posting birthday wishes for all of our litters because after all of these years I'm worried that I'll miss someone and offend. Or I worry that I'll post about a birthday and it'll make someone sad if they have lost a littermate. Working in vet medicine it becomes very obvious that everyone grieves in their own way and I wouldn't want to cause anyone pain.
Now that said, I have had so many messages from the families of this litter today, and it's our girl Ember's birthday too! So happy 7th birthday to our Freya X Mick litter! We couldn't have hoped for a litter with more personality and talent!

Arti loves her new chicken friends. Right...!?! That's love right?!? 😉🤣

Happy 1st birthday to Phoebe and Leo today! One year ago the weather was very different and we had a solar eclipse. You are both such smart, sweet and loving pups and we couldn't be more happy with the wonderful homes that you both have! ♥️

Awww...
How is Arti 6 months old today already? She's a strong independent soul that likes a good cuddle. When Picard is being too enthusiastic, Arti now takes it upon herself to intervene. Which you would think would totally tick Picard off, but somehow these two are still good buddies. I think that Arti is officially bigger than Picard now too.

Happy 12th birthday to our dear Freya! It's so hard to get a great photo of her because she always acts like the camera is going to steal her soul! She gave us a scare this fall when she got very sick one weekend. She had Anaplasma from a tick bite. Unfortunately, even though she was on tick meds, Anaplasma can transmit before most of the medications kill the tick. Thankfully after a couple of doses of treatment she was right as rain again. Of course we completed the full month of doxycycline though! Full blood work at the end of December showed that things were back to normal! She's doing great, and don't let her pictures fool you, this girl still has plenty of pep! Happy birthday Freya, River and Tessa. 🎂🥳❤️

Our Goals at Borderline Border Collies

We breed to produce healthy, social puppies that will excel at anything that comes their way. We choose our breeding dogs carefully. And we support our mommas throughout pregnancy with supplements and high quality nutrition and medical care. We do not cut corners on medical care or nutrition for momma or her babies. I am a Registered Veterinary Technologist with over 20 years of experience in a vet clinic. So the care of all of our dogs is our #1 priority. We work hard from day 1 handling our puppies and exposing them to different smells and people. As they get older and their eyes and ears open, we do more and more of this. We use Early Neurological Stimulation exercises as well as many Puppy Culture principles to help our babies to become confident and out-going puppies!

We do not breed often. One or two litters per year is all that we will have. When one litter goes to their new home, then we focus on finding a great stud dog for our next planned breeding that is usually many months away. We will research new ideas or ways of socializing our next litter. We add at least one new thing each litter. It could be a wobble board, or toys that bounce around and make noise, or one that lights up or makes animal sounds. We are always trying to think of new (and safe) things that the puppies can explore. Doing this when they are young helps to make them into confident and inquisitive dogs as they grow up! This is very important as this breed can easily be skittish or standoffish if they don’t have a strong background that builds confidence.

Check out our albums from our different litters. We post videos of the pups being cute, or when we start exposing them to new things like thunderstorm sounds, or a slide, or a new fun toy. It is important to us to stay in touch with everyone who has a Borderline pup! If you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message. Hopefully this page will become a brag wall for all of you and your four legged babies!
