🐾 NASDA Introduction Classes – Starting March 19th! 🐾

I’m excited to announce that my NASDA Introduction Classes will now be running through Skybound Dog Training!

If you’ve ever wanted to try scent detection with your dog, this class is a great place to start. NASDA is a fun sport that builds confidence, encourages natural scenting abilities, and strengthens the teamwork between you and your dog.

In this 6-week course we will introduce the foundations of:
🔎 Lost Item
🦌 Shed Dog
🏙 Urban Locate

These searches teach dogs to use their nose to locate hidden objects and natural materials while working through different environments.
📅 Starts: March 19th
🕠 Time: Thursdays at 5:30 PM
⏱ Duration: 1 hour for 6 weeks

Sully came in with separation anxiety and a strong avoidance of the kennel. We couldn’t even start inside it—we had to begin with simply existing near it.
By breaking the picture down and reinforcing, we worked from avoidance → curiosity → participation.
This video is raw and uncut (sped up) so you can see exactly how that progression happens.
Training isn’t about forcing compliance—it’s about changing how the dog feels.
Now that Sully is no longer avoiding the kennel and has positive associations with it, we can begin introducing separation—another layer of stress. Without this previous step, introducing separation too early can put a dog into a stack of stress triggers.
A little stress in learning is okay.
Too much stress in learning can be catastrophic.

We’re excited to announce that NASDA (North American Sport Dog Association) scent classes are now open for registration at Catalyst Canine.

These classes focus on developing real-world scent work skills through Urban Locate, Lost Item, Shed Dog, and Trail & Locate, (weather dependent). Training is structured to support both new teams and those preparing for trials, with an emphasis on clear communication, problem-solving, and confidence.

I’m excited to officially announce that Catalyst Canine is now offering Day Train.

This program is designed for dogs who need more than daycare, but don’t require a full board and train. Dogs spend the day in a calm, structured home environment with purposeful training woven throughout the day, not just play and management.
Each day includes one-on-one training tailored to your goals (life skills, behavior work, or sport foundations), structured walks, enrichment, and intentional downtime to support learning and emotional regulation. Social exposure is optional and only included when it’s appropriate for the dog.

Day Train is a great option for busy owners who want consistency and progress without sending their dog away overnight or while they are at work.
Located in West Edmonton. Exact drop-off details are shared once a booking is confirmed.

Spots are limited to keep the program small and intentional.

Introduction to Rally Obedience – Starting in 1 Week

This introductory class covers the foundational skills needed to get started in Rally Obedience. Rally is a dog sport that combines traditional obedience exercises into a course-style format, with an emphasis on teamwork, communication, and clarity between handler and dog.
In this class, we’ll work on core skills including heeling, front position, left and right finishes, sit, down, stay, and engagement. Exercises are taught in a way that builds confidence and understanding, making this class suitable for teams new to Rally or those looking to strengthen their foundations.

Location: Shape Up Dog Training (indoors)
Starts: Saturday January 10th 5:00pm – one week from now
Duration: one hour 6 week Class
