I got to head down to one of my favourite places this morning!! I was only able to get a few worked on!
I focused on working sore muscles on Phantom so he could be more comfortable this coming week! I sure will miss seeing his sweet face when I come down!
I worked on Jiggins again and was able to work out the myotome she has on the caudal side of her scapula. I also worked on trigger points in her back which we were able to release and flush! I also did active release with the brachiocephalic.
Finally my boy Dice 🎲 this horse is so sweet! I started with epilogue to begin feeling for any myotome or atrophied muscles etc, I found a myotome that I was able to knead out on the dorsal side of his bicep femoris. I also focus on his foot fall as I heard that his left hind was dropping harder then the other feet, focusing higher up in the body I could see it was a result of the myotome! I did trigger points and he had a lot of back pain and we were able to release some of it and flush it!

I had so much fun this morning! I am so happy that I am back doing this again!

Super late post!
Back in January at school we had a busy week! Focusing on system functions! While also having vet and farrier days!
I found the day we spent looking at the hoof and function of the foot so interesting and so important. It makes me look at my horses completely different.
We also started a new massage technique, Lymphatic massage which is being practiced on client horses and my own!
I find all of these skills and new eyes so important while I’m starting to get my rodeo horse back in shape for the season!

I had surgery!!
As many know I was in a horrific accident that nearly took my arm a few years back! The occupation and rodeo path I am striving for is very hands on work and needs 2 functional hands! This surgery was another step into a more functional hand for myself and I’m hoping for a speedy recovery so I can get back to doing what I love to do!
I wont be taking on any horses until I get the go ahead from my surgeon but I will be hitting the books for the rest of the month!

Module 2 & week 2 of school is complete! We focused on Myology and Osteology this week.
We learnt massage techniques and new acupressure points.
I am excited to get back and start working with my clients again now that I have more tools in my tool box!
I’ll be heading down to Strathmore & area a few times in November to get my practical hours in before I have surgery in December!

Dice 🎲

Working on this horse was so fun yesterday! He has such a great personality to work with and makes my job so much easier.

We covered the governing vessel meridian and found a couple hallow points along the midline, so I brought the energy back to the hallow points.
We also covered the conception vessel meridian, these points I find are much harder to locate but are a lot of fun to figure out! We also worked on stretching the body!

I love spending time down at Laurie MacDonald place! It feels just like home driving through the gate! I can’t wait to be back.

Over the past few days I have been down in Rocky View County! Our first module included acupressure which was the main focus while I was working on these horses. I also practiced stretching the front and hind limbs.

Many of these horses were anxious or unsettled, as I was going through the points that we had studied in class I found on many of them that points GV 21 (Da Feng Men) GV 24 (Long Hui) and CV 15 (Jiuwei Dove Tail) were hallow meaning the Qi (energy) was not balanced, after working in small clockwise circles the point became level. I am excited to go back in a few weeks and go over all of the points again.
I also worked on a few horses that were having coughing spells or heaves. As I was going over both the dorsal and ventral midline I found points GV 12 (San Chaun) GV 13 (Qi Jia) and GV 14 CV 22 were hallow, I again worked in a clockwise motion to balance the Qi in the point.

I met some incredible people, amazing horses, even some minis and a mini donkey! I absolutely loved it down south.

Studying from a book has never been an easy way for me to learn so having the opportunity to work on a number of different horses was absolutely incredible! I look forward to going back in a few weeks and doing it all again! Until then I’ll hit the books and keep preparing for our first module exam!

The first week of school has come and gone, I was actually a little sad to leave yesterday.

I am so beyond excited to start my 4 year journey of becoming an Equine Remedial Therapist, and to be learning from some of the very best is a gift!

This week was filled with meeting new friends, learning so much about the horse, and learning about myself.

Traditional Chinese Medicine was a big focus this week and I find it so fascinating to learn about!

I find it crazy how much change needs to happen in the equine industry and I hope that with the tools I am learning I can be apart of that change!

I will be posting updates of the horses that I am practicing on over the next weeks as now I will be diving into the practical side of school! Stay Tuned!

School starts in just over a week and I will be back on the 11th of September! I am going to start working on as many horses as I can.
Our first module includes Massage and Acupressure and finding a feel for the horse. I’ll be between Saskatoon, Langham and Edam in September! Message me to get your horses worked on or if you have any questions!
