Liz is a Horsemanship coach serving Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. Liz provides a safe space for learning and exploration of horsemanship.

She is known for being a kind, empathetic, and supportive teacher who brings fun and laughter to lessons. With over 20 years of experience, Liz has explored various disciplines in both English and Western riding, as well as driving and distance riding. Her focus on foundational horsemanship has led her to become a competent trainer who enjoys problem-solving, young horse development, and liberty w

ork. Much of Liz’s knowledge and skill were acquired while working for Jonathan Field, where she worked as his assistant for 7 years. She continues to learn from him, and the information she shares strongly links to Jonathan’s program, supporting those who learn from him as well.

Reflecting on my recent clinic in Ladysmith - what a weekend! 3 days of diving into horsemanship! A beautiful, welcoming facility, the most wonderful group of welcoming, supportive and likeminded people, and of course a bunch of really nice horses!
Take aways included: Slowing down and being mindful in your ask, supporting your horse to build their confidence, understanding what is a fair ask, focusing on timing of our release for increased responsiveness, break free of the limits of the clock! Participants and spectators - did I miss any?

I am looking forward to the next one!

Day 3 of the clinic in Ladysmith is wrapped up, and what a great weekend it was 😊

Today we brought our lessons to the saddle, and based on the smiles I think everyone had a good time! Learning is always easier when we are relaxed and having fun - for horses and for people!

My mare Willow was on the job this weekend and earned all the extra cookies for all the opportunities that she provided for participants 🦄

Day 2 of the clinic in Ladysmith we were blessed with MOSTLY beautiful weather with just a touch of thunder and lightning that had us running for cover😝

So nice to get out in the pasture to explore our ground lessons in a big space and on the sloping grass where the lessons of balance were purposeful.

Day 1 in Ladysmith was a beautiful day with so many great lessons in the round pen. With a focus on Liberty, the topics that came up were: body posture and positioning, preparatory cues and slowing ourselves down, getting specific with our ask, focusing on the positives, and helping horses who have had negative experiences in the roundpen.

I love these clinics in Ladysmith - Its such a great time to relax with like minded, supportive friends where we can get curious about how to be better for our horses.

Tomorrow we continue with our ground skills out in the pasture as a group.

On the list is to help a horse that is nervous for the farrier.
How is your horse for the farrier? Could it be better? If they don't love it, what part makes it hard?

Great observations! I spend a lot of time watching my horses from my window (I’m looking at them as I write this) and I love to see them all together, happy, relaxed and playful!

We are making the best of a horrendously wet weekend here in Ladysmith - Having a blast with our horses ! Yesterday we took advantage of the short window of clear sky to get some lessons off line in the roundpen , and then back inside to solidify some skills! Today we branched into longlining and all the steps to set you up for success ! Tomorrow we ride!

This September I escaped for 2 amazing weeks at the James Creek Ranch with Jonathan Field. This was the most wonderful immersion for Fergus and me. After welcoming him in April, I gave him a couple of months to hang out and adjust to living in a herd and learn some important lessons about sharing space. As the summer progressed I brought him back in to activity on the ground and riding, and plenty of trails to bring him into fitness and prepare him for the physical element of the camp. While I have known him since December, and he has lived with me since April, this camp allowed us to really come together on a new level and I see it as a launching pad into all the lessons that we will be working on throughout the winter. We have a baseline for so many things, and goals for the future both near and far. I am so excited and so grateful to have Jonathan’s guidance throughout this journey!
