Maybe not the most relevant time of year, but a good reminder nevertheless.

⚠️ We recently saw a case of a well-meaning neighbour who threw some grass clippings over the fence to 3 horses who all subsequently developed colic.

❗Please make sure you never feed grass clippings to horses as they can lead a number of health issues :

1. COLIC - A horse may gorge itself on piles of clippings causing an impaction. Clippings may also produce excessive amounts of gas in the large colon leading to colic.

2. LAMINITIS - Feeding high-NSC grass clippings to high-risk breeds may cause laminitis.

3. MOULD - Grass clipping that have been piled up in paddocks can quickly grow mould in warm, humid environments. Mould can potentially lead to number of gastrointestinal and respiratory issues.

4. POISONOUS PLANTS - Horses may unknowingly eat toxic weeds and plants they would otherwise normally avoid when they have been mixed with grass clippings.
