We’ve been keeping a secret…

Everyone, meet Obsidian. 🖤✨

We chose the name Obsidian because it’s a beautiful black and gold gemstone, just like his stunning black and gold brindle coat. From the moment we saw him, we knew he was something special.

Since the beginning of Gemstone Pugs, we’ve only had female Pugs and have been incredibly fortunate to work with wonderful stud families who share our commitment to healthy, happy, well-socialized Pugs. That won’t change. We value those relationships tremendously.

That said, we’ve always dreamed of developing our own brindle line, and Obsidian is the first step in that journey.

Obsidian comes from a respected breeder in New Brunswick with more than 20 years of experience breeding Pugs. Health, temperament, structure, and ethical breeding practices were all important considerations in bringing him into our family.

For now, he’s just a baby. His days are filled with naps, toys, cuddles, and learning from the rest of the Gemstone gang. But one day, when he’s grown and all the appropriate health testing is complete, he may become part of our future breeding program.

Until then, we’ll be enjoying every puppy snuggle, every zoomie, and every adorable brindle wrinkle … puppy breath too!

At Gemstone Pugs, we believe that love, kindness, and acceptance are the brightest gifts we can share, making the world warmer, gentler, and more welcoming for everyone. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

This Pride Month, we proudly celebrate the courage to be your authentic self, the beauty of loving who you love, and the joy of being embraced exactly as you are.

Our Pugs remind us every day what unconditional love looks like. They greet every person with a wagging tail, a joyful spirit, and a heart overflowing with affection. Whether you’re a lifelong friend or someone they’ve just met, every cuddle, snort, and happy wiggle carries the same message: you belong here.

As we celebrate Pride, we’re inspired by the simple kindness our Pugs share so freely. Their loving nature reminds us that acceptance starts with an open heart and that the world becomes a better place when everyone is treated with compassion, respect, and love.

A little update on Miss Diamond and her recent visit with her handsome boyfriend, Bentley. 🖤🐾

After spending several days together, we decided to bring Diamond home.

While the two of them genuinely enjoyed each other’s company, Diamond made it pretty clear that she wasn’t interested in taking the relationship any further. Despite having plenty of opportunities, she didn’t seem committed to the idea of mating, and Bentley respectfully took the hint. We are grateful to Bentley and his mom for taking such great care of Diamond.

One thing we strongly believe as ethical breeders is that our dogs always have a say. We never force breedings, rush the process, or put puppies ahead of the wellbeing and comfort of our dogs. If a female isn’t interested, isn’t ready, or simply says “no,” we listen.

Would we have loved a litter of black Diamond puppies? Absolutely. But her wellbeing is far more important.

That said, the two of them did have some private time together during her stay, so it’s certainly possible that nature found a way when nobody was watching. Time will tell.

But regardless of the outcome, Diamond’s happiness and comfort will always be more important to us than producing a litter.

Diamond is back home, enjoying life with her Gemstone family, and we’ll wait to see what the next few weeks bring.

Sometimes the best breeding decision is knowing when not to breed at all. ❤️

Love is definitely in the air at Gemstone Pugs. 💕

Ruby has officially had a successful date with her boyfriend Simon, and now Miss Diamond is in heat and heading to meet her handsome boyfriend Bentley this weekend.

If all goes well, July is going to be a busy month around here - with two litters expected just two weeks apart. One beautiful litter of full fawns and one litter of gorgeous black Pugs.

Our house is about to be filled with puppy breath, tiny snores, wrinkly cuddles, and nonstop shenanigans - and we honestly can’t wait. Stay tuned for all the fun as the Gemstone family grows. 🐾

Wrinkle washing at Gemstone Pugs 🐾

Those adorable Pug wrinkles need regular care to stay clean, dry, and healthy. Moisture, food, and dirt can get trapped in the folds which can lead to irritation or infection if not cleaned properly.

Pugs benefit from having their wrinkles gently wiped every day or every other day depending on how deep the folds are and how active they are. The key is keeping them clean and dry.

Today was spa day for Ruby and Diamond and both girls were very good for their wrinkle washes 💕

We’re excited to share that Ruby had a successful mating with handsome Simon from Salty Snouts Pugs. ❤️🐾

Salty Snouts, like Gemstone Pugs, is a small family-owned ethical breeding program that puts health, temperament, and loving homes first. We’re so happy with this pairing and can’t wait to see what these two sweet pugs may bring into the world together.

If all goes well, we should be expecting little puglets in early July. 🐶✨
