Meet the Staff Monday
Say hello to Kristen, one of our amazing Client Service Representatives here at PEI Veterinary Walk-In & Urgent Care!

With over 6 years of experience in the veterinary world, Kristen brings both knowledge and compassion to every interaction. She graduated from Durham College with her Veterinary Assistant certificate and dove right into emergency medicine, later transitioning to general practice. We were thrilled to have her join the Veterinary Urgent Care Group in October 2023!

At home, Kristen is kept on her toes by her 4-year-old Labrador Retriever named Willow, two Nigerian Dwarf goats named Thor & Loki, and an ever-growing flock of chickens 🐾🐐🐔

Outside of work, she’s a true creative — always working on a DIY project from Pinterest, attending concerts, or bringing ideas to life with her 3D printer.

We’re so lucky to have Kristen on our team

HEAT STROKE IN PETS: KNOW THE SIGNS! 🐾☀️

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat stroke in our furry companions. Heat stroke can come on fast—and it can be deadly without quick action.

Here’s what to watch for:
🚨 Early Signs:
🐶 Excessive panting or drooling
🐱 Rapid heart rate
😰 Restlessness or difficulty breathing
🐾 Bright red gums or tongue
🌊 Vomiting or diarrhea

🚨 Severe Signs:
🌀 Weakness or collapse
🧠 Disorientation or seizures
⚠️ Unresponsiveness

If your pet shows any of these signs, move them to a cool area immediately and call us or your nearest emergency clinic right away.

💧 Keep pets hydrated
🏖️ Avoid outdoor play during peak heat
🌳 Never leave pets in parked vehicles—even for a minute!

🐾 Meet the Staff Monday 🐾
Say hello to Nia, one of our amazing Veterinary Assistants here at PEI Veterinary Walk-In and Urgent Care! 💙

Nia is a Veterinary Assistant who joined our team in April of 2025. She has experience working in several fields of veterinary medicine, including research, surgery, emergency and critical care, general practice, and more. She grew up in a small town in Ontario and received her Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph in 2022 before moving to New Brunswick that fall.

Nia has a passion for working with all creatures great and small, hence the breadth of experience in the veterinary industry.

She hopes to attend the Atlantic Veterinary College and obtain her DVM to fulfill her dreams of becoming a veterinarian. She recently moved to Cornwall, PEI, while she continues to try to get into the program.

When not working, Nia enjoys rock climbing, hiking, reading, and drawing. At home, she can be found spending time with all her pets, including her cat, dog, and 16 reptiles.

We’re so lucky to have Nia on our team — and so are your pets!

✈️🐾 Traveling with Pets? Here’s How to Make It a Smooth Ride! 🐾🚗

Planning a trip with your furry companion? Whether you're heading out for a weekend getaway or a cross-country adventure, here are a few vet-approved travel tips to keep tails wagging and whiskers twitching:

🐶 Prep a Pet Travel Kit
Pack food, water, bowls, medications, a leash, waste bags, grooming supplies, and a favorite toy or blanket for comfort.

🐱 ID & Microchip Check
Ensure your pet’s collar has up-to-date tags and that their microchip info is current—just in case you get separated.

🚗 Secure Travel
Use a travel crate, seatbelt harness, or pet carrier to keep your pet safe and reduce anxiety during the ride.

🧳 Plan for Pit Stops
Stop every 2–4 hours for bathroom breaks, water, and a chance to stretch those paws!

🌟 Meet the Staff Monday 🌟
Say hello to Eliza, one of our incredible Registered Veterinary Technicians here at PEI Veterinary Walk-In and Urgent Care!

Eliza went to the Dalhousie Agricultural campus in Truro, Nova Scotia, where she graduated from the veterinary technician program in 2023. After graduation, she went on to write her veterinary technician national exam to become registered under the EVTA.

Eliza has a passion for emergency veterinary medicine, which led her to PEI, where she joined the urgent care group in November 2024. Eliza moved from the west coast of Newfoundland after working in general practice for a year and she now lives on the island with her two rescue cats, Pogo and Fila.

We’re so lucky to have Eliza on our team! 💙
