This gentle giant was brought in last month after a run-in with a porcupine! His family acted quickly and brought him in right away to have over 100 quills removed from his paws, mouth and face!

We have stayed in touch with dad that reports Koda is doing great! Hopefully Koda will no longer say hi to porcupines on his next adventure.

❗️Porcupines in Calgary❗️
Porcupine encounters are more common than you might think, especially around wooded areas, parks, and off-leash trails. These shy creatures aren’t aggressive, but they will defend themselves if they feel threatened—often with a painful result for curious pups.

What you should know:
🐾 Keep pets leashed or supervised, especially in wooded or brushy areas.

🐾 be more cautious at dusk and dawn when Porcupines are most active.

🐾 Seek veterinary care immediately and Never try to remove quills yourself — they can break off under the skin and cause serious infections
