💗 Mira update! 💗

When town officials alerted us to a tiny kitten found alone in the grass at the town works building, Mira was only 1–2 days old. She needed round-the-clock care, so we transferred her to ARF Alberta - Animal Rescue Foundation, who were in a better position to give this little girl exactly what she needed.

And now we’ve received an update that has us smiling! 🥹

Mira is gaining weight and starting to open her eyes! 👀💕

She’s still tiny, and there’s a long way to go, but we think this little girl is going to make it. ❤️🐾

Keep growing, Mira. We’re all rooting for you!

Three events. Three ways to get involved. One big goal: CHANGE LIVES. ❤️

📣 SUNDAY, AUGUST 30 | SAVE CLINIC SEND-OFF
Help us manage our adoption booth, meet animal lovers, and spread the word about what we do!

🌱 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 | VEG FEST
Help us share BHARS with the community, man our booth, and help sell our merchandise! Come ready to chat, connect, and have some fun.

🐱 SEPTEMBER 9–12 | MAJOR TNVR EVENT
This one is BIG. And we need all hands on deck!

We need volunteers to help with:
🐾 Trapping
🐾 Animal care
🐾 Transportation
🐾 Recording information
🐾 Returning animals to their colonies

Volunteers for this event must be mobile, willing to work at colonies throughout southern Alberta, follow detailed instructions to ensure the animals’ safety and care, and be able to transport animals to Calgary for veterinary care.

On September 12, we’ll also need volunteers to help transport animals back to their colonies for release.

⚠️ Please note: The TNVR event involves long hours, bending, lifting, and being on the go.

Whether you’ve got a few hours or can commit to the full TNVR event, we’d love to have you on the team.

🌶️ Do you like your cats a little spicy? 🌶️

Because we need YOU. 😻

Our recent trapping efforts brought us a whole schwack of kittens who are mild to medium spicy and seriously lacking in the human-socialization department.

But we think there’s a loving companion cat hiding inside many of these little spicy beans. They just need time, patience, and someone willing to show them that humans aren’t so scary. ❤️

If you’ve been thinking about fostering, this is your moment. And if you signed up before but haven’t fostered in a while, we’d love to have you back!

🌶️ We’re looking for fosters who can commit at least a couple of months to helping these kittens come around.

Colony Update 🐾

The cats we trapped Tuesday and Wednesday have officially made it through surgery today, and everybody is doing wonderfully! ❤️

As you’d expect with outdoor cats, there were a few battle scars, some self-inflicted scratches from those pesky ear mites, and plenty of evidence that life outside hasn’t always been easy. But they’ve all been treated and cared for.

They’ve now had their spays and neuters, vaccines, and identification tattoos so they can be easily recognized when they return to their outdoor home.

Because their surgeries happened a little later in the day, they’ve earned themselves an extra night of VIP accommodations at the clinic. We’ll pick them up Saturday and return them home, along with support for the community members caring for them, including food and supplies to help keep this colony healthy and supported moving forward.

One more step toward making life a little safer for these cats. ❤️🐱

💙 THANKFUL THURSDAY 💙

This week, gratitude is truly in the air. There’s so much to be thankful for, I’m not sure we can fit it all into one post… but we’re going to try. 🥹🐾

First up… HOOT FOUND HER PEOPLE! 🏡❤️

After 269 days in care and more than 17 applications, Hoot finally met the people who were meant to be hers. To say her tail was wagging and there wasn’t a dry eye around is an understatement. 🥹🐶

We are SO happy for this girl. Please share in our excitement and celebrate with us! 🎉

And it wasn’t just Hoot… Helios was adopted too! 🥰 Another Rescue Friends happy ending.

We also want to say a HUGE thank you for the incredible response to our food plea. You helped get us through another week! ❤️ With 50+ cats currently in care, though, those supplies disappear FAST. We could definitely use a restock to keep everyone’s bowls full. 🐱🍽️

This week also reminded us of something really important:

When rescues work together, the animals win.
One goal. One agenda. Their lives. ❤️

A massive thank you to Canadian Animal Task Force and BHARS for tirelessly working on this week’s TNVR efforts. We are so grateful to be part of a community that comes together to help animals where they need it most. 🐾

And to our new fosters… THANK YOU for saying YES. ❤️

We are 100% volunteer-run, and every foster who opens their home makes it possible for us to say yes to another animal in need.

This week alone, we welcomed 9 new faces into care and are also assisting with the TNVR of a community cat colony in Three Hills.

Behind every intake, every adoption, every food donation, every transport, every foster and every late-night emergency is a group of people who simply care.

A well-oiled machine? Maybe.
Powered by love? Absolutely. ❤️

Our goal is simple:

Save as many lives as we can, with as much compassion as possible.

That’s a wrap! 😅

After two long days, our trapping efforts at this colony are officially complete!

We ended up with seven adult cats, who will now go through TNVR and be returned to the community through our partnership with Rescue Friends and the Canadian Animal Task Force.

We also have 10 older kittens who are slightly beyond the ideal socialization window, but we’re going to give them every opportunity we can. We’d much rather help them adjust to life with people than return them to a community where life is harder.

And a special mention to the final three kittens trapped this evening, affectionately known by one of the caretakers as the Three Amigos. 😂 These three were always together, seemed to be the cleverest of the bunch, and always appeared to have something up their sleeve!

Our final kitten, a beautiful little Siamese, made things easy for us. Just as we were wrapping up, one of the caretakers found her sitting on their porch, put out a kennel with food inside… and she walked right in!

Huge thanks to the community members who gave us access to their properties and helped make this possible.

After two days of trapping and about three hours of sleep, we’re exhausted, exasperated, and very happy with the outcome! ❤️🐾
