This Valentine’s Day marks two years since Mazzy and Star went missing from a Brockville kennel after it was broken into in the middle of the night.

Valentine's Day now holds a different meaning for us.

For us, it symbolizes a love lost.

Our girls weren't supposed to be there but the foster home had suddenly fallen through and we were in a crisis.

It was an emergency situation. It was only meant to be a short-term stay.

If only we had come up with a better solution. But, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.

Two years is a long time, Lord knows it is.

But we still cling to hope that they will be returned to our waiting arms, to our broken hearts.

So we can can spend the rest of their lives making it up to them.

To right this wrong.

To give them a lifetime of love that they dearly deserve.

We failed them once, and we will never be OK with that.

But we also know that sometimes, you don’t get a second chance.

Still, we're praying hard that this will not be one of those times.

Because the people of Brockville sure haven't given up either.

They haven’t forgotten them.

They still ask about them, worry about them as we do, fearing they may have fallen into the wrong hands.

But they refuse to give up.

They vigilantly watch out for them, EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Yes.

There is still hope for a Miracle.

Maybe this Valentine's Day will once again be a Celebration of LOVE.

Crisis.
That seems to be the 'Go To' word for these troubled times.
So many crises.
Climate, Health, Economy, Politics, just to name a few.

And here, in our little animal rescue corner of the world, the Pet Crisis is causing enormous heartache.
Shelters overflowing, vet clinics stretched beyond their limits, and rescue organizations desperately trying to keep up with the increased volume of displaced animals and the soaring medical costs that go with it.
Some rescue groups have even been forced to temporarily, if not permanently, close their doors.

It's that bad.
And yet, it's not all doom and gloom. Is it?
There's always a glimmer if you look hard enough for it.

Especially when you're in the business of rescuing beagles. Experience has taught us to never underestimate the endless optimism of a beagle and how much it can rub off on us! I'm sure other dog breeds proudly possess the same gene but you've got to admit, beagles reign supreme when it comes to seeing their water bowl as half full. And so, by association, do we. That includes YOU, of course, faithful Supporter. We're still standing because of YOU. We're still here, offering our specialized service to the beagles that need it the most. That's not to say we haven't had our troubles over the last 25 years, with an emphasis on the post-pandemic era we're in right now. We've certainly had our share of worries and tears. Years and years of tears! But the giggles from the wiggles always seem to outnumber the teardrops. And there would be no giggle-worthy wiggles if not for your incredibly steadfast support and belief in our work at this here beagle repair shop.

As we paw our way towards the Month of Love, we keep hopes high for continuing to be in a position to save more happy-at-heart beagles (thanks to you!) and lovingly plop them into beautifully handmade dog beds in front of roaring fires on a cold winter's day (thanks to our foster parents!)

But at the same time, we find ourselves dreading Valentine's Day as that will mark one full year since Mazzy & Star went missing.
If ever there was a time when our optimistic hearts were tested to the limit, it was on that horrible day.

But we have not lost all hope.
Not a chance.
And neither have the good people of Brockville. We could not be more grateful to them for keeping our sweet girls in their hearts and on their minds 24/7 with eyes always on the watch. And oh! If we should, by some beautiful beagle-powered miracle, have the good fortune to welcome our precious pair back HOME to us…we would promise them with happy tears flowing that the Month of Love will last their entire lives this time around.

In honour of all that BIG Love for our contagiously candescent Beagles - past, present and future…
PLEASE keep wagging those tails and fanning those flames of Hope & Happy because Lord knows we need it!

To All the Caring Folks out there who continue to pray for our girls right along with us.

There have been some developments. We have good reason to believe they are still in the Brockville area. Please keep watching for them and if you spot one or both girls, even if you’re not sure if it’s them, take a pic if you can and let us know right away!

Keep in mind Mazzy & Star are primarily white with light brown spots. They’re small beagles too but larger than pocket beagles. They’re also quite friendly and might even jump right into your car! If they do, reach out to us here and we’ll come running!!!

Thank you, as always, for your love and continued compassion for our missing girls. We have not given up hope!!! With your help, I think we’ll find them one fine day. 🙏❤️

Just before Mother’s Day, we posted this message below on our Rescue’s FB page. We thought we should share it here too, with the Long Weekend approaching.

Maybe this will be the weekend that someone very special will reach out to us with glorious news about our girls. Maybe that special someone found them and took them home and fell in love with them! We would celebrate that news…more than you could ever know. If our sweet girls finally found LOVE with you, we could not be happier for such an outcome. Just please, let us know they’re safe and they’re HAPPY.

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day.

Some of us may not have children here at Big On Beagles but we still know what it is to be a mother. We feel that motherly tug to our hearts every time we rescue an abandoned beagle. And from that very first embrace, we are forever tied. A love that never dies. A love that stays true and burns brightly forever. No matter what.

That’s why this special day hurts so much. Because collectively, we are the mother of two precious girls who have been missing for almost 90 days. It is as though time, and our hearts, have stood painfully still since Valentine’s Day. So many tears have fallen since that day.

But we refuse to give up hope.

It’s spring. A time of renewal. A time when everything comes back. The leaves on the trees, the grass in our yards, the flowers, the birds, the butterflies.

Maybe this Mother’s Day, our girls will come back too.

As long as there’s hope in our hearts, we will keep a candle burning in our window to guide Mazzy and Star HOME.

Because a mother always has hope in her heart.❤️

To the person who may have Mazzy & Star…

We’re BIG on Beagles, in every way. We love the breed, and we love coming to their rescue when they need our kind of help. Our goal is always to bring back the wag to their tail, the happy howl to their voice, the wiggle to their walk, the joy to their face.

In other words, we’re big on them, finally knowing the true meaning of LOVE.

So today, we want the chance to speak to the person who may have our girls.

First, above all else, THANK YOU.

Thank you for taking them in from the cold.

Thank You for filling their tummies and allowing them a chance to feel safe and warm.

Thank you for showing them the meaning of LOVE.

But there’s more to do now.

More than anything, we want to know that Mazzy & Star are okay.
For over 40 days, we’ve been searching for our girls. From the moment we wake up each morning to the time we go to bed at night, we think about them and pray for them. And we cry over them. We will not give up looking for them.

So please, reach out and let us know they’re okay. The moment you do, you will be paving the way for their future happiness. Because we’re here to help with that. We’re committed to ensuring their very best care.

Do you want to FOSTER them for us? It’s possible! We wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve fallen for them!

As a foster parent, you provide the love, and we provide the medical care! Currently, they both need their tick preventative, and Heartworm Season is fast approaching! Mazzy also needs dental care. We cover all those veterinary expenses.

Do you want to ADOPT them? That’s possible too! Beagles like Mazzy & Star have a knack of pawing their way deep into our hearts.

We just need to sit down with you and have a friendly chat about it!
When someone special fosters for or adopts from BIG ON BEAGLES Rescue, they instantly become part of our FAMILY, and we’re always here for our Family.

Come HOME to us, baby girls…

It’s been over 40 days since Mazzy and Star went missing from the boarding facility in Brockville where they were temporarily placed, but that was tragically broken into the night before Valentine’s Day. We cannot provide any further details than that at this time but we can confirm they were NOT taken by the intruder, but simply escaped the premises during the mayhem.

Every day since that awful day, we somehow find the strength to hold onto our hope. Our love for them makes sure of that. And our efforts to find them have not diminished.

Today, we have arranged for the publication of Lost Pet ads in two different major newspapers along with 4 on-line ads running for the next 30 days. On the ground, a mass distribution of Lost Pet signs have gone up next to all Beer Stores and LCBOs in the surrounding areas. Being the Easter Long Weekend, we wanted to boost exposure as much as we can.

They’ve been through enough. We’ve been through enough. It’s time we bring our girls back HOME. Please pray hard along with us today and just maybe, our prayers will be answered.🙏❤️

How can this be? 40+ days!! The girls are still not home. Our hearts are hurting. 💔 Our eyes with tears. 🥺😥

The team continues to follow-up on possible leads, setting up cell cameras / food stations in areas of interest, in hopes of a sighting. We are grateful to the community for their on-going support during this difficult time. We appreciate you all and thank you for keeping us strong. 🙏

In an effort to reach those not on FB, we have placed ads in a few surrounding newspapers: Brockville Recorder & Times, Ottawa Sun, and Kingston Whig.

Please, we are asking anyone with information to come forward. We need to know where they are. Are they okay? No judgment, we just want them back home with Big on Beagles Rescue . We are also open to the Finder applying to Foster or Adopt.

Holding on to Hope!!

As the snow starts to fall today, we're praying...we're praying that we discover two sets of pawprints in the snow somewhere out there. We're praying those little pawprints lead to our girls, Mazzy & Star.

Never think for one minute that we're giving up hope on their safe return. They are in our thoughts EVERY SINGLE DAY. When the phone rings, we catch our breath in the hope it's the call we've been waiting for. When our phones ping with a Message from our incredible Search & Rescue Team on the ground, our hearts skip a beat.

We are not giving up. Not ever.
