Update on my chicks that hatched just after boxing day. They are doing great. Some have started to get their own personality. I found it funny to find a couple of them are starting to get what I would call mohawks of fuzz on their head. This pretty much tells me which rooster is the dad as he has funky feathers on the top of his head. It is interesting to see what I'm getting from a mix group of characteristics.

Picked up a great find at the share shed at the dump. You'll never know what you will find. Workshop racks re-purposed into hay bins.

Lacey's kits. 7 1/2 weeks old. This group seems to be a bit harder to tell the girls from the boys. Wish I had 3 hands, one to hold the rabbit, one to check and the other to take a pic. Anyone have any tricks on that 3rd hand? When I checked this morning it was 3 girls 3 boys. I'll check again in a week. See if it becomes any easier.

Penney's Down the Lane is off to a new home. She was bred to Penney's Chuckles and Giggles before she left. Fingers crossed for a safe and healthy litter. This leaves me with 1 hole open. Looking to see what's out there for solid colored Rex bucks. Pedigree is a must.

I am looking to do a trade. I have a pedigreed Rex broken black buck (Charlie). Proven. He throws solid so not a true Charlie?? So I was told. Penney Rex breeding. I am looking for a solid colored proven buck. Located in Bridge Lake. I can send more pictures for anyone interested.

Here they are. I started with 18 eggs. One I lost 2 weeks ago and then one didn't make it from yesterday. Total chicks are 16. The difference in some of them is amazing. Pretty sure we have 2 different roosters responsible here as the hens were exposed to both.

My eggs are starting to hatch. There are several with cracks this morning. This is my first time hatching and with my new incabator. Fingers crossed they all are healthy.

Harley is my sidekick. Where I go he goes. He loves the snow and ice even more. Even of it means risking a headbutt from little sis. Meanwhile, Cinder just loves the head rubs. Loving these girls. I can't wait until spring and I can try my hand at working that wool.

My heart did a bit of a skip when I seen it move. Why you may ask, it's just a chicken! It's a promise of future animals that will help our homestead grow. If they turn out to be hens we will have more eggs. If they turn out to be roosters then it is meat in the freezer.

This batch of eggs is a experiment as I only purchased this particular incabator due that it has an additional plug that can be used with a battery. This works for us as we are currently off grid and don't have electricity. We run on a generator part of the day and that is it. So the battery powered incabator was a great idea. We get about 8 to 10 hours off the battery set up. The rest of the time we have the generator going and it charges the battery.

I will always say that I have to keep in mind the saying "Don't count your chickens until they hatch" Hatching day if all goes well will be boxing day.
