If you are looking for a trainer to do a refresh or start, consider Kathleen. She listens to the owner and is transparent about what the horse still needs. She accomplished what I wanted with my prospect, and he was ready to ride when we brought him home. She is calm, strong, and has a good set of skills. My horse came home happy, fit, and without a scratch.

Currently located in Saskatchewan, offering fine tuning, general miles, and habit corrections on horses of all shapes, sizes, and breeds.

It was as a beautiful day for the second SPR Hunter Pace. 41 riders with 13 recorded team pace times. The mystery pace was 88 minutes.
The closest time was 89 minutes recorded by Ilse, Chantelle, Violet, and Kat. Congrats to all the riders for a well ridden pace!
Thanks to Early's Farm and Garden for fantastic participation prizes. Everyone loved them!

Here’s a good post on jumping XC fences.

It’s a bit hard to spot, but there is some pine brush at the base of this little roll top to create more of a ground line. A horse is more likely to find a good takeoff spot when it can read the fence accurately, and ground lines help create visual certainty. I know lots of people who think that these are either unnecessary, or who think it makes the job too easy. But jumping solid jumps is risky enough when things go well, so why not give the horse that little bit of help?

Another thing to spot is the way that Daryl is just slightly behind the motion. This will help her land in better balance than if she was more forward, because at any sort of speed, the landing creates a jolt that can pitch the rider forward. It is sort of like the way a mother used to whack her kid in the face with her arm in pre seat belt days when she had to stomp on her car brakes for some reason. Be back to avoid being flung.

The overall feeling I get from this photo of Daryl Kinney and Beaulieu’s Simply Cool is of low key efficiency and balance, a focused pair competently handling this little cross country jump some years back in Southern Pines, NC.
