Khan & Chloe's Weekly Roundup ✨️
Chloe met up with Jackson again this week for a social walk - they're becoming fast weeks! 💞

Khan & Chloe had some off leash time at a quiet dog park and had some playtime! They also met Frankie, who Chloe was excited about. Khan found her excited energy a little too much!

Both dogs are doing really well and Chloe's recall is coming along quite nicely. 🤗

Both dogs are so great, I'm really enjoying our time together and I think they are too! 💞🐾

Frankie has been staying with us this week.

We've learned a few new things about each other!

Frankie also met a few new dogs this week.

Khan & Chloe’s Weekly Roundup ✨️

Both Khan & Chloe are doing so great!

I’m so proud of them and their achievements so far, especially Khan this week who not only walked through a park he normally wants to avoid, but he also walked through the local school grounds behind the park - he also walked past the school, which were some of his fears previously and he’d tremble due to fear and want to turn around! But this week he surpassed himself and accomplished three of his fear areas on his walk! It was not my plan to walk him near the school, only the park but he was happy to keep walking in that direction (where he knows the school is!), so I thought I would see where he takes me! Yayy… way to go Khan!! 🎉🎈👏👏

My dog, Benny, also tagged along with Khan for some social time this week. Both dogs are relaxed and comfortable in each other's presence after several sessions together. They both also have a lovely calm energy.

I can’t tell you how much it fills my heart with joy seeing dogs become the best version of themselves and gaining confidence in the process. 🤗
🐾
🐾
Chloe is also doing great with her impulse control, especially around distractions (and squirrels, which trigger excitement!). She’s learning patience and resilience and doing really great with her recall.

My neighbors kindly met us for a social walk this morning with Jackson (Golden Retriever, who Chloe’s met a few times before) and Adelaide (French Bulldog - Chloe’s first social walk with her). Chloe was calm to start but once she was comfortable she invited Adelaide to play! However, the dogs were leashed and on a street walk, so not the best time for play! Adelaide appeared to be quite responsive by the prospect, so maybe another time if Adelaide shows an interest and the timings right? 💞

Thank you to my neighbors and their doggos 🙏💞

Happy Friday! 🎉

Frankie's Weekly Roundup ✨️

This little lady is always up for adventure. She loves it when people stop to say 'hi' to her and Frankie always gets compliments on how well behaved she is!

Adelaide joined a walk this week - Frankie likes having friends tag along. ❤️🐾

Frankie is vacationing at our home next week, so she'll get to make more friends! 🥰

DO YOU KNOW HOW AMAZING YOUR DOG'S NOSE IS?! 👃🧠

If you want to offer your dog(s) an amazing smorgasbord of smells, try walking them at dinner time when most of your neighbors are cooking meals! Or visit a pet store (if safe to do so) - a candy store for dogs! Or walk them on garbage collection day!
Things that smell absolutely gross to us humans, smell wonderful to our dogs!
[I don't allow dogs to get into the garbage, nor do I allow them to p*e up garbage totes!]. Dogs don't even need to get close to the garbage to be able to smell what's in there! But it offers them a magnitude of scent, and we all know dogs love nothing more than sniffing scent - it triggers neural brain networks (or doggy data analysts as my retired IT Consultant hubby calls it!).

Some dog nose facts:

➡️ Dogs noses are fascinating and did you know they are as unique as a human fingerprint! Each dog's rhinarium (the section of bare skin at the tip of a dog's nose) has a distinguishing design of dimples, dots and ridges, making them all different!

➡️ Dogs have been reported to smell objects and people over 12 miles away (just over 19 kms!), depending on conditions such as wind, direction and type of scent. Dogs olfactory systems work so well that they can be trained to pick up odors as little as a pictogram, which is a trillionth of a gram! How awesome is that!!

➡️ Dogs devote lots of brain power to interpreting smells. They have more than 100 million sensory receptor sites in the nasal cavity compared to 6 million in people and the area of the canine brain devoted to analyzing odors is about 40 times larger than the comparable part of the human
brain.

✅️ This is why it is so important to allow our dogs time to sniff on their walks. Not only is it rewarding, it provides enrichment, aids sleep, is a great way to destress an anxious dog, calms the mind, provides mental stimulation, which also helps prevent doggy dementia as dogs age and is just as tiring as a walk, in fact it’s more tiring and offers so much stimulation.

I love watching dogs noses in action! 🤗

[Video was interrupted by a lovely elderly man that likes to stop and chat to us on our walks].

Cute little Adelaide spent the day with us and joined Frankie on her daily walk. They've met a few times before and are fairly comfortable around each other. 💞🐾

Adelaide enjoyed a relaxing massage in the afternoon before her nap time. Quality rest is very important for dogs, especially after any mental or physical activities. 💤

Fyi; I'm also certified in canine massage! 🙌💆‍♀️

Khan loves butt scratches! 👐 He'll often come into me to ask for one! Naturally I'm going to oblige!! 🤗

Having a calm, confident dog join an anxious or insecure dog can really help them by offering guidance and support.

Chloe has been practising her recall because she likes to play "Come get me!" games with her mom when it's time to leave the dog park making it tricky to leave!

It's much harder for dogs to drag themselves away when other dogs are present due to all the excitement! 🤩 But if you work on recall in low distraction areas first and then progress to working on recall around lots of different distractions, and pick your moment when to call...it sets your dog up to succeed! 👏❤️

Whatever direction Chloe runs off in, I'm going to go in the opposite direction!! Dogs are naturally curious and enjoy being with us, so they're going to follow to see what you're doing.

You'll notice that I didn't have to call her...she just came!

Khan & Chloe's Weekly Roundup ✨️

Both dogs are doing so great!

Chloe is fun, goofy & playful but also has a soft gentle side. 🩷 She has been focusing a lot on recall this week and is learning to regulate her excitement when walking by other dogs on the street without pulling to try and reach them! Her listening skills are also improving too, which also helps in this situation!

Often with excited dogs they can ignore or phase you out, especially if they see other dogs which trigger their excitement! So quite often I play fun games with Chloe to keep her engaged and make her see that I'm also fun & exciting to be around...this way your dog picks you over the distraction!! 🤩
🐾
🐾
Khan is such a gentle sensitive soul and notices EVERYTHING (he's a watcher 👀), which makes him quite an anxious guy around distractions, but he's getting so much better. He also has a playful, mischevious side when he relaxes enough to let his guard down. This is often when there are no distractions around! 💙

I'm working with Khan to boost his self confidence and show him what he's capable of - he's a smart boy. If you can encourage and guide your dog, it really helps them grow and is a huge boost to their self esteem.

Often dogs don't know what they're capable of until you show them...this is when the 'dog magic' happens!!

I'm really enjoying our time together and watching their progress 🤗

[A upbeat tune to celebrate it's FRIDAY! 🎉🎶]
