Khan & Chloe's Weekly Roundup 💫

Both dogs are doing well. Chloe is working on her leash manners - walking calmly on leash as she's an excited girl and likes to get everywhere fast!! She's easily distracted! 🤩

Khan is a sensitive boy and gets anxious around distractions, including humans and other dogs and moving large vehicles! So I'm working with him to boost his confidence around distractions and help him to feel safe. He's an observer and notices everything in his environment! 👀 Often nervous, anxious, fearful, insecure dogs feel vulnerable when they're stationary for more than a few seconds, so they like to keep moving. When you keep moving you feel safer and are harder to find!

Both dogs are working on recall and prey drive, especially around small critters, which trigger excitement & chasing! 🐿

They're starting to know who I am and get excited when I arrive, which is always a nice welcome. 🤗💞

Frankie's Weekly Roundup! ✨️

Frankie's had a busy week of exploring, sniffing, interactive games, visiting stores, climbing & balancing, playing treat tree!, scent work, greeting humans and dogs, calmly observing squirrels, ball play and doing some fun training. 💫🙌

She's a clever girl 💗

Frankie enjoys playing interactive games with me - she knows lots of different games.

This game teaches her to regulate her excitement! She is doing fantastic at switching it 'off' and 'on!' 🤩

Frankie has really good recall & check ins! She's had a lot of practice! She also knows that she's not to go too far away from me on walks when she's off leash!

WHEN NOT TO STEP IN! ⛔️

As humans we are mostly empathic creatures and it's human nature to want to rush in to help our family, friends and dogs in times of need, or if they get hurt or injured! BUT... sometimes this can have the opposite effect on our dogs (& kids)!

Believe me, I've seen this time & time again! E.g. a client accidentally treads on their dog's paws or tail and the dog was unphased and totally fine about it. But the human runs over in a panicked voice, apologetic and feeling sorry for their dog! Then the dog starts stressing and thinks that something is terribly wrong because their human is upset, and suddenly you have a dog that becomes fearful of your feet and worries whenever you walk near them!

Frankie enjoys walking, climbing and balancing along bleachers! She can easily jump from each bench - I've seen her do it many times! Every time we walk by some, she'll stop and ask me to play her favourite game! I never force her to do it!

Today, it was raining so I didn't want her slipping off! But she's very persistent and we passed four different bleachers and each time she stopped to ask me! [She's also got me partly trained! 😁]. Plus, there was a time Frankie hated being out in the rain, but we play a lot of games when it's wet to make the walk more enjoyable, so now she quite enjoys the rain! 💦

So we played the game and of course she slipped off as they were wet, but she wasn't injured and totally undeterred by the experience! It didn't traumatize her!!

Now - if I had've rushed over and made a big fuss of her falling off the bleachers, this would've made her anxious and create a negative association to the blachers for her, and she most likely would've avoided climbing them again in future!

When dogs hurt themselves, (non serious), they jump up shake it off and carry on! This is how dogs deal with things and I've worked with some very clumsy dogs over the years! 🤭

Be like Frankie...shake it off and carry on! 💫🥰

Khan & Chloe's Weekly Roundup ✨️

It's wonderful to see Khan & Chloe becoming more comfortable around me! Chloe gets excited, but Khan is more reserved but I'm getting a tail wag, which is progress! 🤗

I've been exposing the dogs to different locations to offer a variety of scent and to gradually introduce Khan to different stimulus & distractions as he's very sensitive and needs help with these things. Whereas Chloe gets excited by unfamiliar dogs, people, various stimulus, so I am working on lowering her excitement around these things.

Chloe met my dog this week and the two of them were flirting! 😍 He's still got it! 😉

Frankie's weekly roundup ✨️

Someone turned up the heat on Wednesday, which wasn't fun! So we went for ice-cream driving through the drive-thru!

It's good practice to offer your dog as much exposure and experiences as possible, which should be gradually introduced but always in a positive way from puppyhood.

❗️Dogs should NEVER be left in a hot car EVER!! Stationary vehicles heat up super fast in hot temperatures and become like ovens! Dogs can die from fatal heat stroke & their organs start to shut down.❗️

You're rocking it Frankie girl! 💗👏👏🎉
