June 13 is Missing Mutts Day. 🐾

If your dog escaped tomorrow, could they be found?

Here's your checklist:

βœ… Microchip β€” registered AND up to date
βœ… Collar with ID tag β€” even indoors
βœ… Recent photos β€” from multiple angles, showing unique markings, height, and other identifiable features
βœ… Check your fence for loose boards or places they can get through, ensure your gates latch properly, and check your dog's gear to make sure everything is sturdy and in good shape

Every year, millions of dogs go missing.

Most are never reunited with their families, not because they weren't loved, but because they were not prepared.

Take 5 minutes today. Check your dog's microchip registration. Update your phone number. Snap a few new photos.

It's the easiest thing you'll ever do that could bring your dog home.

We are featuring my Clyde in the photos who was a beloved mutt, German Shepherd/Lab/something cross. He was a runner so there were several times he got away and I could not find him. However we got lucky and always found him safe. But don't take any chances. We all want our dogs safe and happy with us.

Save this checklist. Share it with a dog parent who needs the reminder. πŸ’›

Just a friendly reminder to book your upcoming summer trips as soon as you can. And, don't forget about those weekends away camping or at the cabin. The cats and other creatures need a drop-in visit then, too! We are here for you.

To book, log in to your Time to Pet account and reserve the required dates. If you can't log in, email us at [email protected].

When you log in, please remember to update your account:
- your emergency contacts (make sure they will be home and are not away themselves)
- list any recent health concerns or injuries
- current feeding instructions, favourite treats and favourite toy
- instructions for the care of your plants

And, if you are taking all the pets with you, we can water your gardens or drop in to pick up mail and bring in packages.

Please share and donate if you are able.

3 interesting cat facts (featuring Jason & Mollie):

#1 Cats have whiskers on their legs! They are on the back and part of their sensory and navigation system.

#2 Cats can be ambilateral (ambidextrous) but not all are. For those that are not, male cats tend to be left pawed and female cats right pawed.

#3 When a cat lays down with their butt next to you it is a compliment and a sign of bonding. People often mistake this for rudeness but it is quite the opposite! Dogs often do this too or you may see it in multi-pet households where the pets sit butt to butt.

Do you have another interesting cat fact to share? Drop it in the comments below.

Ever notice how your whole body relaxes the second your dog (or cat!) curls up next to you?

Science says what we already knew:

Dogs (and cats) make us feel better.

Here's what is actually happening:

🐾 Oxytocin boost β€” Just looking at your dog (or cat) releases the same "love hormone" you feel with close human connection

🐾 Lower cortisol β€” Petting your dog (or cat) physically reduces your stress hormone levels

🐾 Heart rate drops β€” Studies show your heart rate and blood pressure decrease within minutes of being near your dog (or cat)

🐾 Regulated breathing β€” Watching your dog (or cat) breathe slowly can actually sync your own nervous system

🐾 Presence, not performance β€” Your dog (or cat) does not need you to be productive, successful, or "on." They just want you there. And that kind of unconditional acceptance? It's rare.

So no β€” you are not being dramatic when you say your dog (or cat) helps your anxiety.

You are being accurate.

Save this for the next time someone says "it's just a dog." (Or cat!) 😻
