Our seasonal reminder to be safe out there!

Signs of Heat Stroke in pets:
• Excessive panting
• Gasping for air
• Vomiting
• Foam around the mouth
• Bright red gums (or may turn blue)
• Dehydration and unable to drink
• Loss of consciousness

What to do if your pet may have heat stroke:
• Move to a cooler area (a shady grassy area or indoors with a cool fan on).
• Use lukewarm/room temperature water (NOT cold water or ice) to cool down the paws, armpits, groin and belly.
• Wipe rubbing alcohol or witch hazel onto the inner ear flap and paw pads.
• Use a dropper to give the pet a little dribble of water. Do not force them to drink as they could aspirate fluid into their lungs.
• Take them to the vet for follow-up treatment

It is supposed to be up to 32 degrees here in Abbotsford tomorrow. Summer is officially here.

IMDB lists the following top 5 films about pets:

1. The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
2. Marley & Me (2008)
3. Hotel for Dogs (2009)
4. Because of Winn-Dixie (2005)
5. G-Force (2009; it's about guinea pigs)

I disagree and #1 should be Isle of Dogs (2018).

There's a difference between "checked on" and "cared for." 🐾

Checked on = Someone stops by, fills the bowl, lets them out, leaves.

Cared for = Someone who notices your dog seems off. Who follows the routine you left. Who sends a photo because they know you are thinking about them. Who actually sits with your dog and genuinely cares, not just checks a box.

Your dog knows the difference. And so do you.

When you are looking for a sitter, walker, boarding facility, or daycare — ask yourself: will my dog be checked on, or cared for?

Because the right person does not just keep your dog alive while you're gone. They keep your dog happy.

Hire a professional pet sitter and dog walker, like Furryornot Petcare, to ensure your dog gets the best care possible.

June 13 is Missing Mutts Day. 🐾

If your dog escaped tomorrow, could they be found?

Here's your checklist:

✅ Microchip — registered AND up to date
✅ Collar with ID tag — even indoors
✅ Recent photos — from multiple angles, showing unique markings, height, and other identifiable features
✅ Check your fence for loose boards or places they can get through, ensure your gates latch properly, and check your dog's gear to make sure everything is sturdy and in good shape

Every year, millions of dogs go missing.

Most are never reunited with their families, not because they weren't loved, but because they were not prepared.

Take 5 minutes today. Check your dog's microchip registration. Update your phone number. Snap a few new photos.

It's the easiest thing you'll ever do that could bring your dog home.

We are featuring my Clyde in the photos who was a beloved mutt, German Shepherd/Lab/something cross. He was a runner so there were several times he got away and I could not find him. However we got lucky and always found him safe. But don't take any chances. We all want our dogs safe and happy with us.

Save this checklist. Share it with a dog parent who needs the reminder. 💛

And, if you are taking all the pets with you, we can water your gardens or drop in to pick up mail and bring in packages.
