There has been many cases these past few months all over Belmopan with this Virus!

Canine Distemper Virus (often just called distemper) is a serious and contagious viral disease that mainly affects dogs, but it can also infect other animals.

🦠 What it does

It attacks different parts of the body, especially:
• Respiratory system (lungs)
• Digestive system
• Nervous system (brain and nerves)

⚠️ Symptoms

Signs can vary, but common ones include:
• Fever
• Runny nose and eyes
• Coughing
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Weakness
• In severe cases: tremors, seizures, or paralysis.

🐕 How it spreads
• Through air droplets (like coughing or sneezing)
• Contact with infected animals or contaminated objects (food bowls, water)

💔 Is it dangerous?

Yes. Distemper can be fatal, especially in puppies or unvaccinated dogs.

💉 Prevention

The best protection is:
• Vaccination (very important for puppies)
• Keeping pets away from sick animals.
