🌪🐾 Hurricane Dorian: 6 Years of Loss, Love & Hope 🐾🌪

Six years ago, Grand Bahama faced unimaginable loss. Hurricane Dorian tore through our island, leaving behind devastation, heartbreak, and scars that time will never fully heal. People, homes, and countless animals were swept into the storm’s path.

At the Humane Society of Grand Bahama, we not only watched our community suffer, we endured terrible losses ourselves. Yet, through the heartbreak, we found something stronger than the storm — hope. 💖

Every rescued pawprint in the mud, every wagging tail that returned, every cat that purred again reminded us that love can rise even from the darkest ruins. We are still here, still fighting, still rebuilding — for them.

💔 We remember the loss.
💖 We honor the resilience.
🌟 We walk forward with hope.

Please stand with us today — together, we can rise above the storm.
✨ And here is where YOU can bring the light. ✨
Memberships and donations are not just dollars — they are meals, medicine, shelter, second chances, and survival. Every bit of help brings us one step closer to ensuring that no animal is left behind.

🌟 Old Souls, New Beginnings 🌟

At the Humane Society of Grand Bahama, our senior dogs are quietly waiting… waiting for the best friends they haven’t met yet. 🐾

These dogs may have a little more gray on their muzzle and a little less bounce in their step, but what they offer is priceless: unconditional love, loyalty, and the calm wisdom that only comes with time.

✨ A senior dog doesn’t just need a home—they need a heart willing to see their beauty, their spirit, and their story. And in return, you’ll discover a bond deeper than you ever imagined.

Meet Hugo ❤️ — a 7-year-old beautiful Royal Bahamian Potcake with a gentle soul and eyes full of hope. He’s ready to share his life, his love, and his wagging tail with someone who believes in second chances.

📽️ Watch Hugo’s video and let his story touch your heart. Maybe he—or one of our other senior sweethearts—is waiting just for you.

🐶 Adopt. Don’t shop.
Because love knows no age.

🌟 Love Heals Everything 🌟

Behind the shelter doors are hearts that have already known too much pain.
Some were abandoned. Some were mistreated. Some never knew what it felt like to be safe.

And yet… every single day, they still wait. 🐾
Tails wag when footsteps echo down the hall. Eyes shine with hope when a kind hand reaches for the kennel door. They are waiting for love. For a gentle touch. For someone who will see not the scars of their past, but the beauty of their soul.

💖 A loving hand can transform fear into trust.
💖 A safe home can turn loneliness into joy.
💖 Your heart can be the reason a dog learns to believe in love again.

Right now, they are waiting in the shelter — waiting for YOU.
Step inside, meet them, and let love guide you home together. 🏡✨

🐶 Adopt. Don’t shop.
Because sometimes the one who needs love the most is the one who will love you forever.

UPDATE AUG 31: The dogs have been returned to their home. No more chains, fence is being repaired and dogs will be microchipped asap. One is already spayed and the other will be getting spayed too. Thanks for all the shares!

Two missing dogs - this is from their owner:

🚨 Missing Dogs – Possibly Stuck in Bush Near My House in Freeport 🚨
My two dogs have been missing for over a day and a half. I believe their chains might be caught somewhere in the bushes near my home. When I call them, I sometimes hear faint barking behind the gate, but I can’t see or reach them.
Description:
Shiya – Rottweiler, responds to orange coat
Jules – Tri-color Pitbull
Last seen: At my house in Freeport
They might be scared and tangled up, so please, if you live nearby or have seen them, contact me immediately.
Contact: 809-7088
Please share this post to help bring them home safe! 🙏❤

Note: Our field officer went out this afternoon to try to help find them and although he thought he heard a faint bark, he was not sure and could not ascertain where it had come from. So it's possible they're in the bush, or perhaps someone found them. If anyone with possibly a chainsaw would be willing to go to the location, that might help, and please call the owner's number above if so for directions to the home in Sherwood Forest. But regardless, please keep an eye out. If seen or found, please call owner, or the HSGB at 727.2477 or 727.1390.

Please share.

🐾 Meet Cloud – Your New Best Friend! 🐾

Cloud is a beautiful 3-year-old girl looking for her forever family through the Humane Society of Grand Bahama.

She was sadly surrendered when her owner had to travel for work and could no longer care for her. Cloud was a beloved house dog, so adjusting to the shelter has been a big change for her — but she’s trying her best and waiting patiently for someone to give her a second chance.

✨ Why you’ll love Cloud:

Great with people and children ❤️

Gentle, affectionate, and loyal

House-trained and eager to please

A sweet soul who just wants love and stability

Cloud would thrive in a home where she can be part of the family again, surrounded by love, play, and companionship.

👉 Ready to adopt Cloud?
Contact the Humane Society of Grand Bahama today and make her part of your life. Don’t let this sweet girl spend another day waiting for the family she deserves.

Adopt, don’t shop. 🐕💛
