Finally, your Sammy update ♥️
As many of you have noticed, Sam is now wearing a cone because he scratched some of his healing tissue after some of his stitches came undone, which created a condition called a ranula. A ranula is basically a pocket of saliva that forms under the tongue or around the jaw area when a salivary gland or duct gets damaged or blocked, causing saliva to collect where it shouldn’t.
Our doctor from out of town, the wonderful Dr. Lesheva, said that the only person in Burgas who may be able to do this procedure for Sam is the doctor from Burgas Vet. Burgas Vet is where Grizzly passed, so this is emotionally difficult for me, but Sam needs this care.
Dr. Lesheva said she is going to write to Dr. Milev and see if he can help Sam. From what I understand, they will likely drain the fluid and possibly try to unblock the pathways causing the buildup. I don’t have all that much information about the procedure yet, but I hope to have more information by Monday.
Right now, we’ve also added red light therapy into Sam’s treatment. Red light therapy can help support healing by improving circulation, reducing inflammation, easing discomfort, and encouraging tissue repair, so we’re hoping it gives his body a little extra support while he recovers.
I also gave him a bath today. He’s become a lot more sensitive around his mouth and healing areas, especially when I have to clean them, but we’re learning together. I’m trying to move slowly, gently, and with as much calm as possible so he feels safe and doesn’t become too overwhelmed or irritated. He’s incredibly brave, and despite everything, he still leans into love.
Thank you for continuing to love this sweet boy through every step of his journey. Sam is deeply loved, deeply cared for, and still purring his way through it all. ♥️
