Trying to do what I can to help change this misconception that snakes are evil through educational programs and content on social media. If we want things to change we as reptile keepers need to do a better job getting out there and educating others that these creatures aren’t something to be feared.

Usually when I tell people I like snakes they usually either say ”gross” or end up showing me a few pictures of their most recent copperhead or water moccasin slaughters, most time they are non venomous water snakes or rat snakes. Imagine how horrified people would be if I showed them a pic of a dog that was killed for no reason other than just existing like that same snake was. People need to wake up and be better. You don’t even have to like snakes, just respect their space and realize that everything in nature has a place.

We don't try to "nope" animals here. We have all seen the posts where people mention "burning the house down" or "killing it with fire."

Even though sometimes it can seem hilarious to say this, this promotes the idea that certain animals are disgusting, dangerous, or scary. Many people kill every spider, bat, or snake they see, because of this "nope" idea.

We want our audience to unlearn this. We do want you to know that:

🦇 Bats are an amazing free pest control for many harmful insects - especially for farmers, saving up to $1 billion in crop damage.

🐍 Snakes are an integral part of the food chain for rodent control, and also are food for many other animals like raptors.

🕷Spiders are some of the most beneficial animals when it comes to biological control of pest species around homes, buildings, yards, and crops.

We love snakes, spiders, and bats, and we hope everyone will learn to respect them (at the very least) and maybe even like them too!
