🐶 🐱 👂 Il y a différentes raisons pour lesquelles votre chien ou chat se gratte les oreilles. Il peut s'agir d'une manifestation d'allergie, d'un déséquilibre de la flore commensale, de la présence d'un corps étranger ou de parasites, d'infection bactérienne... Le fait de se gratter les oreilles et de secouer la tête augmentent l'inflammation et peut même parfois conduire à un othématome (un gonflement parfois impressionnant du pavillon de l'oreille dû à une accumulation de sang).

Si votre chien se gratte les oreilles ou se secoue la tête, ne tardez pas à le faire examiner 👂 🐱 🐶

It can be allergies, an imbalance of the normal microflora, presence of a foreign body or parasites, a bacterial infection... Excessive scratching and head shaking increase inflammation and can lead to an othematoma (a swelling of the ear flap due to accumulation of blood).

If your dog is scratching their ears or shaking their head, get it checked out sooner rather than later 👂 🐱 🐶

🐶 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ Connaissez-vous le canicross? Il s'agit de course à pied avec votre chien attaché à votre taille avec un harnais et une laisse spéciale. C'est une excellente activité physique pour vous et votre chien qui permettra également de renforcer votre lien 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ 🐶

🤧 🐕 🐈 Les éternuements peuvent avoir différentes causes, mais la plus surprenante est la présence d'un petit corps étranger. Vous serez étonnés par ce qu'on peut retrouver dans la cavité nasale d'un chien ou d'un chat: des brins d'herbe (jusqu'à plusieurs centimètres de long!), des épillets, des brindilles... Bien-sûr ça chatouille très fort et peut provoquer des éternuements très impressionnants 🐈 🐕 🤧

You'd be astonished at what can get lodged into your cat or dog's nasal cavities: blades of grass (up to several centimetres long!), grass seeds, twigs... 🩺 💉 Comment se passe une prise de sang chez un chien ou un chat? Elle peut se faire soit à la patte, soit au cou. La zone en question est d'abord tondue et désinfectée avec un peu d'alcool. Si elle se fait à la patte, on met un garrot, mais si c'est au cou, il faut faire une petite compression avec le doigt. Ensuite on pique avec l'aiguille et on met le sang dans différents tubes en fonction des analyses qu'on aimerait réaliser 💉 🩺

Tout ceci semble bien simple en théorie, mais il ne faut pas oublier que certains animaux ne sont pas très coopératifs et que leurs veines peuvent être très petites! Il n'est malheureusement pas si rare que ça de devoir le sédater et/ou s'y reprendre à plusieurs fois pour récolter assez de sang

🩺 💉 How do we go about drawing blood from a cat or dog? It can either be done on the leg or the neck. The area is clipped and disinfected with alcohol. If the blood is taken from the leg, we use a tourniquet, but if it's in the neck, we compress the vein slightly with a finger. Then we prick the vein using a needle and collect blood in different tubes depending on the analysis we'd like to run 💉 🩺

This all sounds simple in theory, but don't forget that some animals are not very compliant and their veins can be very small! It is unfortunately not uncommon to have to sedate them and/or try several times before gathering enough blood

Tout simplement, on regarde votre compagnon à quatre pattes depuis le bout du nez jusqu'à la pointe de la queue, en passant par le nez, la bouche et les dents, les yeux, les oreilles, la gorge, la peau et le pelage, les articulations et la palpation du ventre. On peut ainsi récolter beaucoup d'informations quant à sa santé avant-même de sortir le stéthoscope! 🩺

🤔 Mais qui est Dr Ellis? 🤔

🩺 Diplômée depuis 2017 en médecine vétérinaire, j'ai travaillé aux côtés de plusieurs autres vétérinaires ces dernières années. J'ai ainsi pu voir différentes approches de la médecine vétérinaire qui n'est pas toujours une science exacte, mais plutôt un art reposant sur une base scientifique de qualité 🩺

🏠 Aujourd'hui j'habite à Braine l'Alleud avec mon mari, notre chien Bear et mon lapin Mitzu. Actuellement je me consacre de plus en plus aux visites vétérinaires chez vous 🏠

🩺 I graduated in 2017 and since then, I've been working with several veterinarians. During this time, I discovered different approaches to veterinary medicine, which isn't always an exact science, but often rather an art form based on strong scientific foundations 🩺
