Created by the Dutch breeder and grower, Richard van Ruiten, in tribute to Tomas' floral design work, particularly with Gloriosa, "Tomas De Bruyne" Gloriosa Rothschildiana is available through Tomas or Reineri. This exquisite flower has a royal Patron, Princess Nora, wife of His Royal Highness Prince Saud of Saudia Arabia.

De gloriosa is een prachtige bloem die opvalt door haar knallende kleuren en puntige bloembladeren op een lange steel. Door haar kunstige verschijning past de bloem goed bij jouw sterke en vurige karakter. Want een leeuw vindt het niet erg om op te vallen, toch? De bijnaam van deze bloem is ‘prachtlelie’, wat symbool staat voor roem en eer. En dat is niet voor niets, want leeuwen zijn erg trouw en loyaal. Blijf stralen in 2020, leeuw. Maar maar wees niet bang om af en toe ook eens je emotionele en gevoelige kant te laten zien.

De Gloriosa is een botanisch buitenbeentje: een knolletje dat zich ontpopt tot een spectaculaire klimmer. Ze trekt zich op met kleine krulletjes aan de punten van de bladeren, die het net als handjes op een ladder steeds hogerop zoeken. Daarom staan de bloemen van de Gloriosa voor ambitie en succes: ze zijn het ideale geschenk voor iemand met een nieuwe baan of die op een andere manier een nieuw begin ervaart. Medicinal Uses:
Gloriosa has a wide variety of uses, especially within traditional medicine as practised in tropical Africa and Asia (including Ayurvedic medicine in India). It has been used in the treatment of gout, infertility, open wounds, snakebite, ulcers, arthritis, cholera, colic, kidney problems, typhus, itching, leprosy, bruises, sprains, hemorrhoids, cancer, impotence, nocturnal emission, smallpox, sexually transmitted diseases, and many types of internal parasites. It is an anthelmintic. It has been used as a laxative and an alexiteric. The sap is used to treat acne and head lice. In a pregnant woman, it may cause abortion. In parts of India, extracts of the rhizome are applied topically during childbirth to reduce labor pain.

Colchicine is widely used as an experimental tool in the study of cell division, as it can inhibit mitosis (a type of cell division), induce polyploidy (cells containing more than two sets of chromosomes), and has been used in the treatment of cancer.

It is in great demand for medicinal use, so it is cultivated on farms in India, but most plant material sold into the pharmaceutical trade comes from wild populations.
