Another call today from a resident at Hamlyn Terrace, where they sighted a snake hiding behind their plastic garbage bin shed the other side of their aircon unit.
We arrived and unloaded the bins and while I pulled out the plastic bin shed, Tina grabbed the snake!
A beautiful specimen of a rubber snake ( Chinaerensis rubberi), and by the looks of the snake he had been there for a while!
The snake was removed to our care so it didn’t cause a problem again!

We recieved a call from a resident at Gosford with what appeared to be a corn snake ( Pantherophis guttatus) in their backyard.

We attended the premises to find the corn snake had been sunning itself on the rocks in the backyard but had ducked under a very large rock. Luckily the homeowner had a crowbar and we were able to lift the rock enough for Tina to retrieve the snake from under the rock.

It will be held for DPI to decide its fate!
Corn snakes ( Pantherophis guttatus) are exotic snakes that cannot be held privately in Australia by the general public.
Only Zoos and Wildlife Exhibitors with the correct licences can hold them.

NO, they can’t go to a zoo or wildlife park, as they can get them from other zoos or parks that have them, with studbook background information.

Being an exotic, they can be detrimental to our native fauna and flora and can have exotic parasites that can be deadly for our natives!

Tonight we got a call from a resident in Tuggerawong, where he had some fishing net in his backyard that a red belly black snake had got caught in.
We attended the premises and cut old mate out of the netting.
Luckily for the RBB, he hadn’t got himself really badly entangled like a lot of them that we get called to. So a few snips on the scissors from Tina and he was free.
He will be held for a day or so to be monitored so the constriction swelling goes down, but he seems go to go!
Just remember that fruit tree netting, fishing nets etc can all trap wildlife, so if you have any netting around your home either get rid of it or monitor it multiple times daily to avoid these mishaps.
