With hot weather expected this week, if you can't hold the back of your hand to the pavement for more than a few seconds, it's too hot for your pet 🌞

Hot surfaces don't just burn their paws; the high air temperature can also lead to dangerous heatstroke, as dogs can't cool themselves down effectively 🥵

During hot weather, only take your dog for a walk outside early in the morning or later in the evening when it is cooler. You should also avoid walking on hot surfaces like pavements, asphalt or sand.

This advice is crucial for our more vulnerable companions, such as flat-faced breeds, seniors, young pups, or those with existing health problems.

If you think your pet has overheated or is suffering from heat-related issues, call an RSPCA veterinary hospital or your local veterinarian immediately ❤️

WARNING to all pet owners west of the Nepean River. We have seen a recent spike in Paralysis Tick Cases on top of an already heavy load this summer. Patients have presented with various symptoms including vomiting, retching, and paralysis. Several of our patients have been on tick prevention. Please check your pet daily for ticks and remove them immediately if found. A removed tick can be taken to your local veterinary hospital for identification. Please keep all your pets up to date with tick prevention, check them regularly for ticks (the majority of ticks are found on the front half of the body, particularly the head). Remove them immediately if found as they continue to release toxin into your pet while attached. Removal is possible using your fingers, tweezers, or a tick twister. If your pet is behaving abnormally then take them to your vet as soon as possible.
Puppies and kittens are just as vulnerable to ticks as adults, so if you live in a Paralysis Tick region please find a safe form of tick prevention to use as soon as possible. Some new pet owners have received advice not to commence tick prevention until their pet is 12 weeks of age. While there are some products not registered as safe for very young pets, there are some that are safe. Please talk to your vet for advice. Given the current weather conditions we strongly recommend taking every precaution against ticks.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update here, and that’s because I’ve been on a break from pet sitting due to this guy. Little Henry will be my main focus for the foreseeable future 🥰

Greencross Coreen Ave would like to let families in flood affected areas of Penrith, Richmond, Windsor & the Hawkesbury know that we are working to assist as many pets as possible needing emergency temporary boarding.

** PLEASE understand that we may need to take your details and phone you back with various options depending on the size of your pet and care required. **

We are expecting our usual intake of Easter boarding pets but will do our best to accomodate families affected by the flood evacuations wherever possible.

The decision to evacuate or stay with your home is always an anxious one. We suggest you have carry cages & leads and vaccination records on hand and confine your pet in case you need to leave urgently.

We are here to help you look after your pets and our doors are open to take in as many feathered, furry or finned pets needing care. 🐶🐱🐰🐧

Stay Safe.
