🀎Odina and her dad Sunny🧑. He's such a good dad. He always let's the kittens get in first to eat. He's so gentle and gives them all kisses.

All of the cats are associating their pet carriers with safety and comfort, which makes me so happy. πŸ’œ

They've been using them as little hideaways, nap spots, and places to relax. The goal is for carriers to feel like a positive part of their environment rather than something scary that only appears before a vet visit.

Daisy, however, isn't having a bar of it haha. She has a handful of traumatic experiences with the pet carrier and the vet lol.

She's still very suspicious of the carrier and has no interest in stepping in. I'll start by placing treats near the carrier and gradually work up to putting them inside, helping her build positive associations and confidence.

When they're happily relaxing inside, I can give them a treat, gently close the carrier, and take them to the vet without turning it into a stressful experience.

This little one in the video was originally named Sabrina but Gabe keeps calling her Odin or Odina. Odin sacrificed an eye for wisdom. It’s poetic and sweet. I love it.

Her name is Odina 🀎

Kitty Coven foster room is coming together beautifully πŸ’œ

We 6 beautiful rescue cats in here. Healing and learning to feel safe ✨️

The playpens are gone, and all the cats now have access to the whole room. I was so focused on following Socialization Saves Lives that I started looking at larger enclosures for the older kittens and Daisy. Then it finally dawned on me, the room itself is an enclosure. They won't regress, and Daisy deserves more freedom and choice.

I said to my Fiance, "I think Daisy will be happier with more space." She's completed all the SSL phases, but she still doesn't enjoy pats.

Tonight we had a breakthrough. Daisy accepted pats from my fiance! She wasn't loving them, but she tolerated them, which is a huge step forward for our sweet girl.

The room has hidey houses, soft bedding, toys, and pet carriers hidey spots while also helping desensitise the cats to carriers for easier vet visits.

We've also added slow feeding mats because some of the cats seem to have food insecurity and tend to eat far too quickly.

The cat tree gives them a place to scratch, climb, and observe the world from above, and a second cat tree is already on its way.

Next on my wishlist: LED candles and LED lanterns to make the room feel even more magical and cozy. βœ¨πŸ•―οΈπŸŒ™

Every little improvement helps these rescue cats feel safer, more confident, and one step closer to finding their forever homes.

How we treat cats says a lot about the kind of community we want to be.

Thank you to Ashley from Dandenong Foothills for this thoughtful article in . It asks us to look past simple slogans and think about what cat policies mean for real animals and real people.

Too often, cat management starts with punishment. Fines. Restrictions. Blame.

But that does not stop kittens being born. It does not help overwhelmed shelters. It does not support the people already feeding, desexing and caring for cats with nowhere else to go.

We need to start earlier.

That means targeted desexing. Microchipping. Support for owners and semi-owners. Community Cat Programs that reduce shelter intake and euthanasia without turning compassion into a problem.

Please read the article, leave a comment and share it with someone who cares about kinder, fairer cat management.

Let’s talk about cat safety - without the judgement.
There’s no question that an at-home lifestyle keeps cats safer from cars, fights, parasites, and disease.
But containment is not simple for everyone.
πŸ‘‰ Renters can’t alter fencing
πŸ‘‰ Some cats panic indoors or escape through shared spaces
πŸ‘‰ Costs, disability, and insecure housing all affect what’s possible

So instead of blame, we focus on what’s realistic and effective:
βœ” Desexing - the #1 evidence-based tool to reduce roaming
βœ” A safe, enriched home environment
βœ” Keeping cats in at night
βœ” Reliable ID & microchips
βœ” Community cat programs that reduce roaming at the population level
This is a harm-reduction approach - proven by research and supported by APWF and RSPCA knowledge.
Every family can do something to help keep their cat (and wildlife) safe.
Perfection isn’t required. Compassion is. πŸ’›
