In December 2025 we had a lonely hatcher. This pretty girl. She has spent majority of her time on the outskirts of the flock.

Come April she was showing signs that she may be ready to lay her first egg - but it never seemed to come. She skipped the "pregnancy" part of motherhood and decided to go straight to being a broody incubator instead.
I wasn't too convinced that she would commit to sitting on some eggs seeing that she hadn't even layed one of her own yet - but surprisingly she did.

I let her sit on a measly 4 eggs just in case she gave up half way, but here she is today with her 4 three day old chicks!!

Has anyone else had a fantastically broody mama who hasn't started laying yet??

Introducing our newest hatch. 5 cheeky little Milli Fleur Pekin chicks!
We hatched these babies just over a week ago and today is their first day out of the brooder box.
We thought they might like the grass to explore but they were happier with the kids 🤣

Our special little baby isn't feeling too well so I created this makeshift hospital box. For the time being dinner will be on our laps/coffee table 🤭

I had a feeling it could be coccidiosis so I am medicating for that BUT her poops are small, grey and dry. Possibly dehydration?
She has been carrying her wings loose and has a very quiet chirp, yet runs around eating constantly.
We have done a drench last night and she guzzled some sugar water so 🤞 for our little porcelain angel.

Her brother(slim chance sister) has joined her so he can be medicated as well, plus I dont want her to be lonely.

We did a test run of our Milli trio 7 weeks ago and the 2 survivors have just hit 4 weeks old. We got a two little girls...

We did a test run of our Milli trio 7 weeks ago and the 2 survivors have just hit 4 weeks old. We got a two little girls(edit).
Amazingly we learnt something VERY INTERESTING from a hatch of just 2!!!

Our Milli Rooster, Mr Boy, carries a deletion or Lav gene! We got a very pale buff baby girl!

We cannot tell yet whether our buff hen got her eggs mixed in with the clutch, or whether our milli girls carry a deletion as well. Only time will tell with a molt or two, and a lot more test hatches!

(Redacted because she is a girl 😅 - Our little Milli boy will be be available for purchase in a number of weeks so please let me know if you are keen on him!)

Pictured (on a cold and rainy day) are our little test subjects, as well as the possible mamas and super dad!!
