We have 5 black silkies and 5 milli fleur pekins 🥰
What a perfect split!

First look this morning at 6am in the dark.
I couldn't help myself 🤷‍♀️

There are 2 more little fluffy yellow chicks under mama but I havnt pulled them out to have a good look.

You wouldn't read about it (extreme sarcasm) but apparently its hatch day again at Hudson's Hutch!

This time we got a beautiful mix of 13 silkie and Milli Fleur Pekins from the wonderful Tiny Tots Poultry , and amazingly 10 have taken and started pipping today!

Of course they decided to come 2 days early (which is usual for smaller chicken breeds) and on the rainiest day so far 😅
Unfortunately for me a lot of the hatching will happen over night AND I will have to wait until after work tomorrow to really get a good look at them all!

Thankfully Jody Doyle has let me borrow a heat plate as mama might need a little help keeping them dry and warm in this weather.
We have only ever hatched under a broody mama, and they really are the best option in most cases - though with it being so wet and a little chilly, we may even bring them upstairs into a brooder and be a little more hands on with this clutch!

I quite literally broke my back and fried my brain in the Wauchope heat today to make this for my girls.

If I can find a before photo I will post it as well, but it was hard dirt, full of potholes and exposed cement at the base of the posts. Now I have a nice even surface to set up any grower pens or hatching mamas.

Also featured is a repurposed shelf that Jack found on the side of the road. It must be hardwood because the thing weighed a tonne.

It's not fully finished and I have about half a tonne of crusherdust left to haul in but for now im going to lay down for a day or two 🥲
