**POODLE FEET – NOT JUST FOR POODLES!**

With grass seed season upon us, I wanted to share a little grooming tip that could save your furry friend a lot of discomfort — and potentially save you some expensive vet bills!

Now, let's be honest, **“poodle feet” aren't always the prettiest look on dogs that aren't poodles!** But sometimes practicality is far more important than looking fancy!

By clipping the hair nice and short around the feet and between the toes, we can help:

- Reduce the amount of hair for grass seeds to get caught in.
- Make it much easier to check between those little toes after walks and outdoor adventures.
- Keep the feet cleaner and easier to maintain.
- Potentially reduce the risk of grass seeds going unnoticed and working their way into the skin.

**Grass seeds might look harmless, but they can cause serious problems!** They can burrow into the skin, causing painful infections, discomfort for your dog and sometimes very costly veterinary treatment.

While poodle feet won't completely prevent grass seeds, they certainly make those little paws much easier to inspect.

So, if your dog spends time exploring the grass, paddocks or garden, it might be worth considering a more practical little haircut for their feet this summer.

**Sometimes it's not about looking fancy — it's about keeping our precious little ones safe and comfortable.**

Sometimes, progress isn't about the perfect groom. It's about how a dog feels throughout the process. ❤️

This beautiful little man has come such a long way, and I'm so proud of him.

When he first came to me, his anxiety and fear were overwhelming. Grooming was genuinely frightening for him, and getting him through the process safely, both for him and for me, was incredibly challenging.

He's one of my dogs who does require some sedation for grooming.

Now, sedation isn't something I automatically lean towards. I much prefer to work with a dog and see what we can achieve without it. But I absolutely recognise that sedation has its place, and for some dogs, it's necessary for their safety and wellbeing.

**But here's something I think is really important to understand. Sedation doesn't necessarily take away the fear. It can quieten the reaction, but that doesn't mean the dog isn't still frightened.**

And that's what makes this little man's journey so special.

His beautiful owner has been absolutely amazing. She's committed to regular appointments, continuity of care and consistency, giving him the opportunity to build trust and familiarity with the grooming process.

And the difference is just beautiful to see. ❤️

Yes, he still has sedation. But the dog I'm grooming today is so different from the frightened little boy I first met.

His eyes aren't constantly darting around. His body isn't tense. He's not shaking his way through the entire groom. He's calmer, more settled, and genuinely seems more comfortable with what's happening around him.

Does he still worry about having his front legs done? Absolutely!

And that's okay. I work with that. I work around it. I respect what he's telling me.

Because **progress doesn't mean a dog has to suddenly be comfortable with everything.**

Something else that's really important to me is what happens *before and after* the groom.

I love giving dogs the opportunity to have a little wander around the yard, find their feet, explore the salon and settle in. And once their groom is finished, I love letting them have some time back out in the yard before their owners arrive.

I don't want their entire experience to be arriving, straight onto the table, groomed, and out the door.

I want the whole experience to feel different.

**This is what progress looks like to me.**

A beautiful little dog, enjoying a peaceful moment after his groom. Not overwhelmed, not visibly shaking, not constantly on edge. Just looking so much more relaxed.

He's still a work in progress, and that's perfectly okay.

I'm so grateful to his owner for trusting the process and understanding that consistency, patience and continuity of care can make such a difference.

**Because sometimes the biggest achievement isn't the haircut. It's the dog underneath it.**

SUMMER CUTS FOR LARGE DOGS

I’m no longer able to offer baths for large dogs because it’s become too hard on my back, but I can still do a nice shave-down/summer cut without a bath.

Perfect for keeping your big dog cooler and more comfortable heading into summer.
