🐍 Successful Release – Brown Snake 🐍

The Eastern Brown Snake that was tangled in netting at the Treatment Plant has now been safely released back into the wild. 🏞️

It’s always a great feeling to see a snake return to its natural habitat after being rescued. Snakes play an important role in keeping rodent numbers down and maintaining balance in our ecosystem.

⚠️ A reminder: netting can be very dangerous for snakes, lizards, birds and other wildlife. Please check that yours is wildlife-safe to avoid unnecessary harm.

🐍 Brown Snake Rescue – Treatment Plant 🐍

This Eastern Brown Snake was found caught in netting at the Treatment Plant. Luckily, I was able to safely remove and relocate it back into suitable habitat where it can continue doing its job in the ecosystem.

⚠️ Netting is a big hazard for snakes, lizards, birds, and even small mammals – please make sure any netting you use is wildlife-friendly.

If you see a snake in trouble or around your property, don’t try to handle it yourself. Call a professional!

🐾 Pet Safety This Spring – Watch Out for Snakes! 🐍

As the weather warms up, snakes are becoming more active. That means curious pets are at risk, especially in gardens, bushy yards, or even just exploring their backyard. One moment they’re sniffing around, the next – a hidden snake could be nearby 😱.

💡 How to keep your pets safe this spring:
👀 Always supervise outdoor play
🌿 Keep the yard tidy – remove wood, long grass, and piles of debris
🐕 Stick to leashed walks in bushy areas
📍 Learn where snakes like to hide in your local area

⚠️ If a snake bite happens:
1️⃣ Stay calm – pets pick up panic!
2️⃣ Keep your pet as still as possible
3️⃣ Call your vet immediately – quick action saves lives
❌ Don’t try home remedies or handle the snake yourself

🐍 Roxie’s Great Escape! 🐍
Caught red-(scales?)-handed trying to cross the road like she pays rent around here!

Apparently Roxie decided today was the perfect day for a solo stroll — no invite, no warning, just pure diva behaviour.
Luckily, we caught her before she caused a traffic jam… or tried to Uber.

🚫 Reminder: Not all snakes are as friendly as Roxie.
If you spot one out and about, don’t risk it — call the local:

🟠 AUGUST IS HERE – AND THE SNAKES ARE STARTING TO STIR! 🐍☀️

As the days start to warm up in Wagga and the Riverina, snakes are slowly beginning to emerge from brumation (their winter sleep). We’re already seeing early signs of movement – especially from Red-Bellied Black Snakes!

Now’s the time to:
✅ Check sheds, wood piles, and around your home
✅ Keep grass trimmed and gardens tidy
✅ Be extra cautious on sunny days, especially near rocks or concrete paths

🐍 Winter Brumation for Snakes – What You Need to Know! 🐍

As the temperatures drop here in the Riverina, our local snakes are entering brumation – a type of winter dormancy. Unlike true hibernation, snakes may still wake up and move around on warmer days, so you can still see them basking in the sun when the weather is mild.

✅ What this means for you:
• You might still spot a snake on a sunny winter day.
• They’re usually sluggish in the cold, but always treat them as venomous and keep your distance.
• If you have pets, keep an eye on them when outside.

If you see a snake around your home or property, don’t try to catch or kill it – it’s dangerous and also illegal to harm native wildlife.
