What a morning at Southside Pony Club! 🐴 Lisette and I presented on equine biomechanics at the annual South Side Pony Club muster on Sunday 19th April. Lisette Mocke

A room full of riders who showed up curious, asked brilliant questions, and left with practical exercises to help their horses and ponies.

A huge thank you to Stance Equitec Stance Equitec Australia and Plush Puppy Plush Puppy Australia for their incredible goodie bags (WOW - the goodies from Stance Equitec were amazing!), and to Southside Pony Club Southside Pony Club, Qld and Queensland Off The Track Queensland Off The Track for making this education series possible. πŸ’š

The SEQ competition season is well underway β€” Stuartholme's dressage and jumping event last weekend drew over 300 people to Fig Tree Pocket. Love seeing the local horse community out in force.

Quick question for anyone competing or preparing to this year: when did your horse last have a sedated dental examination?

Not a float, a full exam with an oroscope, checking the arcades for lesions and asymmetry.

Drop a year in the comments. I'm genuinely curious what I'll find. πŸ˜…

A study just published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science confirmed something I see regularly in the field.

Researchers examined horses in northern Germany and found infundibular changes (defects inside the tooth structure) in 61.4% of horses examined. That's almost two in three.

Here's what that means practically: infundibular lesions can progress into dentin, compromise the pulp, and lead to tooth fractures. The horse rarely shows obvious pain. They just get a bit harder to ride, a bit reluctant in the contact, a touch resistant.

This is exactly why I use the oroscope in these examinations. You cannot see these lesions without looking inside the mouth with a camera. Visual inspection alone can miss them.

If it's been more than 12 months since your horse had a proper sedated dental with oroscope imaging, now is a good time to book. Link in bio or DM me directly.

Last month I visited a Warmblood mare in the Scenic Rim who had been tilting her head under saddle for over a year.

Her owner had tried a new bit, a new saddle, and two chiropractic visits. Nothing stuck.

When I did a full sedated dental exam with the oroscope, I found a significant Periodontal pocket in the gum and diastema (gap) between upper molars that was creating asymmetric jaw pressure and pain on the same side she was tilting toward.

We addressed the dental pathology (I use dental filler to plug the pocket and gap). Two weeks later, her rider messaged me: "She's a different horse, much happier in the contact."

A balanced mouth can help with a balanced body. If your horse is showing asymmetry under saddle, head tilting, falling in on one rein, stiffness, the mouth is worth ruling out first.

DM me or visit vetalign.com.au to book.

So I had to get amongst this trend!

ChatGPT prompt is "Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me." And add a couple of photos of yourself.

Hopefully my xrays NEVER look like those! But wish my hair was that good IRL..
