We have just reached the end of a magnificent, magical, and beautiful journey. We are heartbroken to announce that our dear old handsome boy Pace died on Monday night at 8:30 pm on his bed at home, aged 14 and a half years.
We first met Pace when we began fostering him from Shenton Park Dogs Home when he was one year old. He was recovering from double hip dysplasia surgery after they picked him up from Subiaco pound. We recognised very quickly that he was special and adopted him.
Besides old age, Pace had a tumour surgically removed 3 years ago, and this year, his cancer recurred (which we knew was likely in his elder years). The last few months, he dealt with reduced mobility (arthritis & historic hip dysplasia). Over the weekend, Pace's mobility and appetite decreased further. On Monday, the vet provided medications to make Pace more comfortable, with end of life plans ready if no improvement was seen. However, Pace had his own plan and died that evening after we had put Ethan to bed, and we had told Pace we loved him. A gentleman even until the very end.
Pace had a lot of roles across his life, leaving an imprint on the many people and dogs he encountered. He was a therapy dog, a helper for 2 Tails training, a mentor, a foster carer, an actor, an obedience champion, a friend, a brother, and most importantly, a beloved, loyal member of our family. The hole in our lives that has been left in his absence is huge. Forever loved and remembered over the rainbow bridge. Fetching as many balls as he can, free from pain. I hope Rich's dad has greeted him there with a bag of schmackos.
We consider ourselves very lucky that he ended up with us, and we hope we gave him the fulfilling, loving life that he deserved.
