What "Blue" Means in Poodles

In poodles, blue is not the same as gray, it’s actually a shade between black and silver

Puppies born blue often look black at first, and their true shade gradually emerges as they mature, sometimes taking 1 to 2 years.

Shades of Blue
Because the fading process takes time, you’ll see a range of blues:

Dark Blue - looks almost black as a puppy, with a subtle bluish sheen as they age.

Medium Blue - clear steel gray coat with depth, often considered the “classic” blue.

Light Blue- softer silver blue, but still darker than true silver poodles.

Fun Fact
The blue gene doesn’t change eye color. Blues still have dark eyes, black points (nose, lips, eye rims, paw pads), just like blacks. What’s different is only the coat pigment distribution over time.

Our gorgeous Prada will be starting puppy training school tomorrow with hopes of one day becoming a wonderful therapy dog 🐩✨

Mum and I both work in the mental health field (Behavioural Teacher Aide & Counsellor/Art Therapist), so it makes us extra proud to see that we’ve bred such a calm and relaxed little girl — already showing all the qualities of a future therapy dog 💖🐾

One year without you. 💔
One year without hearing you bark, or cause trouble or dig up our plants for a bed in the pot plant.
We miss you so much, and still talk about you regularly.

The loss has made a huge impact on our passion for our Boxers breeding and showing. Definitely has left a big chip in our hearts and still is healing
