Important notice in regards to purchasing puppies.
Good afternoon everyone, just a couple of important pointers I’d like everyone to be aware of when purchasing a puppy. This year the amount of puppies we have had coming through with, rescource guarding, anxiety, sound sensitivity, fear of people, unable to be handled, has been beyond a joke.
The issue lies with poor genetics/ poor breeding, you put these dogs into the world with novice handlers ( which most every day people are) and you have a ticking time bomb on your hands. As a trainer it saddens me that puppies are
1. Being palmed off to the incorrect homes ( in correct screaning of homes and families)
2. Lack of education from the breeders in basic fundamentals to owning a puppy
3. Temperament testing isn’t being performed
4. Lack of genetic testing for diseases
5. Lack of education around the diseases that the specific breed of dog is prone to
And what’s worse when people have confronted breeders about these issues are taking zero responsibility! Leaving owners in the dark, and trainers left with constant backlash of unstable temperaments.
so in saying all of this IF you are looking to purchase a puppy in the future PLEASE I BEG YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH!
- ask the breeder for proof of genetic testing
- meet the parents
- ask for temperament testing of puppies
- find a trainer to help you especially with the screening process
- check reviews
- find other people who own dogs from that breeder ( many good breeders support past owners via online groups)
- a good breeder will take responsibility for puppies they are breeding
- if you have a problem with a puppy genetic wise or temperament wise speak up! Leave reviews! Contact the breeder! Nothing changes if nothing is said!
If your breeder refuses to answer these questions RUN!!!!
Remember you can’t change genetics! Training does not change genetics! training does not change health issues!
Ps adopting is NOT the answer! your still supporting back yard breeding! time to crack down on breeders not doing their job and holding them accountable! the only ones who can make a change are the people paying and supporting the never ending spiral.
