Rescue Dogs are the heart of Howling Success Dog Training and Behaviour. All of our team members cut their teeth in the animal industry by working hands on in a No Kill Animal Rescue on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. In our combined 16 years and counting of work in Dog Rescue we all noted how many dogs were either surrendered or over looked for adoption due to behavioural issues. This is how the

In this webinar, Alex and Jess aim to help potential adopters navigate the rescue process by identifying ethical practices and potential red flags when considering rescuing or fostering a dog

Alex and Jess entered force-free dog training via the rescue, foster, and sheltering routes. Passionate about rescue and adoption, while learning a lot on the job, this webinar will discuss green flags of responsible rescues, such as foster education programs and ongoing adopter support. They’ll also highlight warning signs, like rescues adopting out dogs without vet care or failing to disclose known behaviour issues. Attendees will gain practical insights to make informed adoption choices and advocate for better rescue standards. If you’re interested in fostering or adopting a dog but don’t know where to start, this webinar is for you!

Learning Objectives

🚩Identify Red Flags:Participants will learn to recognise common warning signs that indicate potential issues within shelters and rescues, such as a lack of policies and contracts, poor animal welfare, or outdated training and behaviour recommendations.

✅ Spot Green Signals:Attendees will understand the characteristics of reputable shelters and rescue organisations, including transparency, best practices regarding animal welfare, and further education for their volunteers and team.

10 years ago, Jess was the assistant trainer at Maera Dog Training, helping run Puppy School at 😍

This memory popped up today and gave us all the feels—what a journey it’s been. From those early days learning the ropes, to now running Howling Success Dog Training & Behaviour and helping dogs and their humans build beautiful relationships.

Maera was run by the wonderful Bobby, who not only mentored Jess as a trainer, but was also a kennel hand at If you’ve been following along for a while, you might’ve noticed a theme. So many of the people Jess has had the privilege to work with in her dog training career—Nathan, Abbey, Lily, Naja and Bobby—are all Monika’s Doggie Rescue alumni.

We are so proud of how far things have come, and so grateful for every dog, guardian, mentor and teammate who have been part of the ride.

Hi. I’m Jess, the founder of Sandstrom Dog Training.

Dogs have been our companions and friends for thousands of years, but never before have they had to conform to the environmental and social constraints of humans in the way they do now.

"I believe, by helping my clients create a deep relationship which goes beyond the basic dog/owner dynamic, the benefits are not only for the team I’m working with, but greatly reduces the risk of dogs being surrendered to shelters, or abandoned due to behaviour which may be labelled as ‘antisocial’."

I use science based, positive reinforcement techniques, allowing both person and dog the space to learn how to communicate with each other without the use of force, and allowing their relationship to flourish.
