🐾 B R E N 🦷

This handsome 8-year-old greyhound has been absolutely smashing his dental health goals — and we couldn’t be more proud of him (and his amazing owner David)!

Bren used to need yearly dental procedures to keep his teeth in check, but thanks to David’s dedication and consistency, that’s all changed. With twice-daily brushing using pet toothpaste and a children’s toothbrush, plus dental treats, Bren’s teeth have never looked better! 😁

This is such a great reminder that a little effort every day can make a HUGE difference to your pet’s dental health — and their overall wellbeing too! 🐕

Has your pet had their teeth checked lately? Book in with us today!

🐾 FUN FACT FRIDAY 🐾

Did you know… puppies are actually born without fully developed hearing? 👂🐶

Their ears are closed at birth and usually open around 2 weeks of age — which means for their first little while, they rely mostly on smell and touch to find mum and their littermates. 🥹💕

By about 8 weeks old, their hearing is much sharper — especially when it comes to treat packets opening 😉

How cute is this tiny little face?! 💛

🐾✨ Breed Spotlight: Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) ✨🐾

This gorgeous fluffy patient is a beautiful example of the Shetland Sheepdog — often lovingly called a Sheltie 💛

Shelties are incredibly intelligent, energetic and loyal companions!

🌟 Breed Traits:
✔️ Highly intelligent (they excel in obedience & agility)
✔️ Devoted and affectionate with their families
✔️ Alert and vocal — excellent little watchdogs
✔️ Sensitive and responsive to training

🧠 Fun Fact:
Shelties consistently rank among the top most intelligent dog breeds. They were originally bred to herd sheep in the rugged Shetland Islands — which explains their quick thinking and strong work ethic!

🩺 Health Considerations:
Like all breeds, Shelties can be predisposed to certain conditions, including:
• Dental disease (due to smaller mouths)
• Eye conditions
• Luxating patellas
• Skin sensitivities

Regular health checks, dental care and good grooming routines are key to keeping these fluffy friends happy and healthy 🐶✨

And of course — that luxurious double coat needs regular brushing to prevent matting and reduce shedding!

If you own a Sheltie, you’ll know they are equal parts brains, beauty and heart 💕

💗 G E M I M A 💗

Beautiful Gemima, our sweet three-legged Australian Shepherd, came in to see us for a lump check.

Being a tripod doesn’t slow this girl down one bit! She’s bright, happy, and full of life — but when her family noticed a new lump, they did exactly the right thing and booked her in to have it assessed.

🩺 Why lump checks are important:

Lumps and bumps are very common in dogs, especially as they get older. While many are harmless, some can be more serious. The only way to know for sure is to have them examined — and often sampled.

We may recommend:
✔️ Measuring and monitoring
✔️ Fine needle aspirate (a quick needle sample)
✔️ Biopsy or removal

Early detection makes a big difference 💛 If you notice a new lump, a change in size, redness, or your pet seems uncomfortable — it’s always worth getting it checked.

Gemima was all tail wags and cuddles during her visit, and we’re so proud of how well she did 🐶✨

If you’ve found a lump on your pet, don’t panic — but don’t ignore it either. Book in for a check and let’s make sure everything is okay.

🐾 H U G O 🐾

This handsome boy came in feeling a little uncomfortable, and after an examination we diagnosed an ear infection — something we see quite commonly in dogs.

👂 Did you know?
Ear infections in dogs can be caused by:
• Allergies
• Moisture build-up
• Yeast or bacteria
• Swimming

🔎 Signs to watch for at home:
• Head shaking
• Scratching at the ears
• Redness or swelling
• Unpleasant smell
• Discharge
• Sensitivity when touched

Ear infections are often painful and rarely resolve on their own. The sooner they’re treated, the more comfortable your pet will be — and the less likely the infection will become chronic.

💡 Prevention tips:
✔️ Regular ear checks at home
✔️ Only use vet-recommended ear cleaners
✔️ Book an exam if you notice early signs

Hugo has started treatment and we expect him to be feeling much more comfortable very soon 💙

If you’re concerned about your pet’s ears, don’t wait — give us a call to book an appointment.
