Our Branch is made up of passionate volunteers committed to improving the lives of animals.

Caring for surrendered animals

Adopting dogs, cats, puppies and kittens

Assistance with emergency veterinary care for injured animals

Subsidised Desexing Program for financially disadvantaged peo

ple to have their animals desexed

Fundraising and events

Building relationships with local Council and community groups to assist with animal welfare issues in the region

Some Branches operate Op Shops where people can make donations and purchase items

North Coast operate a Cat Adoption Centre

Some Branches operate Infolines for pet advice and information
How to get involved with your local branch

As AWL NSW branches are run by volunteers they are always in need of new faces to join their dedicated teams. There are many roles/opportunities available to help animals at your local branch, some of which may include:

Donations: Every branch needs donations in order to survive and continue their work with local animals. Contact your local branch to make a donation, or participate in one of their fundraising events. Events: Branches regularly participate in events to help raise money for their cause. This may be anything from a BBQ at Bunnings to a stall at a local fair. Events are a great way to be involved with your local branch if you can’t commit to set days every week. Fundraising: You can raise money for your local branch by initiating your own fundraising activities. Coin drives at your school and placing donation tins at your place of work are great ways you can raise money to help animals. Foster care: If you have space at your place for an animal awaiting a home you may be able to foster through your local branch. Fostering is a great hands-on experience which gives you the opportunity to see first-hand the difference you’re making. Animal transportation: Sometimes animals in branch care need to travel for appointments and their foster parents or other branch members may not be available to do it. If you have reliable transportation and would like to “help when you can” you can offer your animal transportation services to your local branch. Store assistant: Some of our branches run op shops in their local area. You can help by committing to a regular shift which may involve serving customers or sorting through incoming donations. Admin: Like all organisations, AWL NSW Branches must complete paperwork and hold regular meetings which require minute taking. If you have admin experience you may be able to lend your skill set to your local branch. Photography: Branches that are involved in rehoming animals always need good photography to showcase their animals in the best light. If you have a knack for photography and a love of animals your local branch may be able to utilise your skills.

MEOW MONDAY

Feta and Brie — another success story of kittens rescued from a life of struggle.

Feta wears her “coat of many colours” proudly — a stunning swirl of tortie tones that Dolly Partons herself would sing about.
Brie is her soft-hearted sister, gentle and curious, with a growing sparkle in her eyes and such a pretty face. Her black Tabby markings turn heads.

These girls started out shy, hiding from the world — but love, patience, and treats have brought them out of their shells. Now they shyly come for pats, seek affection, and are learning to trust. The transformation , although a giant step forward , is still a work in progress and we would love to see them adopted by someone with patience and lots of love. 🧡

Both girls would fit best in a quiet home with older children who understand to move slowly, and possibly a small cat friendly dog. Loud noise and fast movement still starle them and they will hide till they think it is safe.

They’ve come so far, and their carer couldn’t be prouder.
Now it’s time for their next chapter — a calm, patient home where they can blossom even more. 🌸

It was almost a SILENT SUNDAY , but we managed to keep the momentum moving with little Jasmine.

Jasmine is the household observer – a thoughtful little lady who prefers to sit back and watch the world before jumping in. She’s a curious kitten, but her favourite pastime is quietly taking it all in.

Although she may take a moment to warm up to new people, once she feels safe, Jasmine melts into cuddles and will purr up a storm, soaking up all the pats you have to give.

Quick movements and loud noises might startle her, but Jasmine is growing braver every day. She’s learning that the world isn’t so scary, especially when gentle voices and loving hands are around.

Jasmine loves curling up under a blanket, basking in the sun, or perching on a windowsill while her foster carers are at work. She’s also playful in her own sweet way—happily attacking soft toys, using her scratching post, or chasing a mouse toy.

She would be perfect for:

• Quiet homes
• Families with a friendly resident cat (she loves to snuggle with her foster siblings)

GIGI is thankful for the kindhearted people in her past that rescued her from her dangerous environment and we will be thankful for the people in her near future giving this sweetheart a furever home.

This is Gigi — graceful, smart, and quietly loyal. She’s the kind of cat who won’t beg for attention, but once you’re in her circle, you’re golden.
She’s looking for a calm, kind home (with a good scratching post, of course).

Gigi is a gorgeous adult girl with a soft heart and ninja-level skills. She moves like a shadow — in, out, and gone again before you even realize. It’s no surprise really — she survived on the streets and was found at a train station, quietly asking for food and keeping herself safe. Smart, observant, and incredibly aware of her surroundings, Gigi knows how the world works but she still trusts.

Despite her street smarts, Gigi is gentle by nature. She appreciates kindness, and once you earn her trust, she’ll give you affection on her own quiet terms. She’s not the clingy type, but she’s deeply loyal to the people who treat her well.

She’s not too fond of loud noises or sudden movements, so a calm, child-free home would suit her best. Other cats aren’t really her vibe — unless they’re respectful and keep to themselves. Cat-friendly dogs? She’s cool with those.

🤣From Pete’s carer 🤣

Did you ever have a monster under your bed as a kid?
Well, I do. And he’s still there. His name is Pete.

He’s massive, ginger, and ridiculously handsome — the kind of guy who looks like he bench-presses kibble for fun. But don’t worry, this “monster” is all fluff and zero menace. He just happens to love sleeping under the bed. And on top of it. And on the couch. And in the exact middle of the hallway when you're carrying laundry.

Pete is a 6-year-old ginger loaf of love who didn’t have it easy. Before he came to us, life had been rough. He’d been chased off porches, shooed out of yards, and turned away from every warm spot he found. His eyes said, “I’ve seen some things, ... and they weren’t pretty.”

But now? Now he’s thriving. He’s discovered the joy of snacks, naps in sunbeams, and being exactly where you need to step. He’s still a bit cautious when you come at him from above (understandable — giants falling from the sky are alarming), but he won’t run far. Just enough for you to follow and offer a peace treaty snack. He’s got one mortal enemy: the vacuum cleaner. That’s it. That’s the villain in his origin story.

He currently shares his space with a house full of bossy girl cats, and he handles their drama like a seasoned soap opera dad — quiet sighs, slow blinks, and occasional grumbles when no one’s looking.

What Pete’s looking for now is his hero.
Someone who’ll show him what it’s like to be spoiled silly, loved unconditionally, and allowed to nap wherever the heck he wants. He’s happy to share his new life with other cats, and even dogs (as long as they don't hog the snacks).

So… if you’re ready to be the kind of person a big ginger cat can trust with his monster-sized heart — Pete’s waiting.

Grace is a sweet little calico girl, just over a year old, with the softest soul you’ll ever meet. She was left behind in an empty house—pregnant, alone, and without food or water. She gave birth to 7 kittens, but only 2 survived. They’ve been adopted, and now it’s her turn.

She’s been living with her foster mum and furry friends, slowly learning that people can be kind. Grace is shy at first, but once she trusts you, she’s gentle, playful, and very sweet.

She’s great with other cats, okay with dogs, but loud noises still make her a bit nervous. She’d do best in a quiet home without young kids—somewhere calm where she can finally relax and be happy.

If you’ve got a peaceful home and a kind heart, Grace might just be your perfect match.
