A bit of a controversial post today!
Dr Anna recently completed some puppy vaccinations in North Lakes when a curious peahen and her four peachicks poked their head in to see what she was up to 👀 She snapped this cute photo of 'just another day in the office'.
So why controversial? - Peafowl are not native to Australia and the current party of peafowl that occupy this patch of North Lakes were escapees from the Alma Park Zoo that closed in 2014. The local community is mostly supportive of these adopted 'communal pets', but not everyone is a fan of their noise in the mornings, destruction of gardens, and messing up of bins. They are often also a traffic hazard because they are so tame and unafraid to congregate on the street!

Meet Boris🐾Boris is an Irish Wolfhound rescue puppy that Dr Anna had the pleasure of visiting for his 3rd puppy vaccination. He passed his check-up with flying colours. Dr Anna was impressed with how 'chilled' he was, and amazed that he was already 17kg at only 4 months old 😯 At the end of the visit Boris was proudly showing Dr Anna his piggy toy 😄 A sweet and good natured puppy who loves attention (and his piggy) 💕

🌸 Happy Mother's Day 🌸

Today, we honour and celebrate all mothers — those with us, those we’ve lost, and those still on their journey to motherhood. Whether you're a mother by birth, by choice, by love, or by spirit, your strength, care, and love matter deeply.

For those who may find this day bittersweet, know you are in our hearts. 💐 We see you, we stand with you, and we remember the beautiful bonds that shape us all. ❤️

Sending love to everyone today, no matter what your experience of motherhood looks like.

🐾 Digging: A Natural Behaviour, But Not Always Welcome 🐾

Digging is a common, natural behaviour for dogs — but that doesn’t mean it always belongs in your garden! 🕳️

Here’s how to manage it:
✅ Provide a designated digging area: Give your pup a spot where they’re allowed to dig, like a sandbox or a designated patch of dirt.
✅ Use positive reinforcement: Reward your dog for digging in the right place.
✅ Increase mental and physical exercise: Sometimes digging is a sign of excess energy or boredom, so extra playtime and walks can help.
✅ Redirect attention: If you catch them digging in the wrong spot, gently guide them to their designated area and praise them when they dig there.

🐕❤️ Dogs & Heart Health: The Science Backs It Up ❤️🐕

Owning a dog isn’t just emotionally rewarding — it’s physiologically beneficial too.

According to research from the American Heart Association, dog owners tend to have:
🔹 Lower blood pressure
🔹 Reduced cholesterol and triglyceride levels
🔹 Better responses to stress (thanks to those calming cuddles and companionship)
🔹 Increased physical activity, which supports cardiovascular health
🔹 Lower risk of heart disease and improved survival rates post-heart attack

Daily walks, playful interactions, and the unconditional love of a dog all contribute to a healthier, more active lifestyle — and that’s a prescription we can all get behind.

🐾 Born to Prowl 🐾

That slow, silent stalk through the garden? It’s not just adorable — it’s instinct!

Cats are natural hunters, and even our cuddly companions love to channel their wild side with a good prowl, pounce, and patrol. 🌿🐱

Give your feline friend safe outdoor time or enriching indoor play to satisfy those natural behaviours!

On ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour all who served — the brave men, women, and the loyal animals who stood beside them.

From horses and donkeys to dogs and pigeons, animals played a vital role in times of war, showing courage, loyalty, and sacrifice.

Today, we salute them all.
Lest we forget. 🌺
