I was a little worried about the Warrior Princess yesterday as she didn’t want brekkie and wouldn’t let me near her, which is most unusual for Callie. ☹️ We did manage to catch her and check her over, but there was nothing unusual, so we just kept an eye on her. She didn’t want to come in for dinner either, but once we walked her into the yard she had some hay and seemed okay. This morning she is back to normal and enjoying her breakfast with Dottie, as you can see from the last two photos. Phew!😊
Hopefully, it was just one of those days when you just don’t feel at your best. 🤷‍♀️ Sometimes, I wish they could talk, although I’m not sure that applies to Dottie!! 😂🩷👑

Queen Dottie had her private Breakfast Room all to herself this morning, as Cal went off with the flock. She also got an extra scoop of the good stuff, as she is the Queen, after all! Cal and Cuddles finished off her leftovers. 😋🩷👑

We had a really good morning Preg. Scanning the Elliott girls, with some surprising results. Dr Monica and Vet student, Amy, came with their “you beaut” portable scanner making me very jealous! Yes, I do want one!!😂 No, I haven’t a hope of reading it properly!! 😂

Amy and Dr Monica did an awesome job on the scanner, pointing out heads and limbs and spines for me to see.

The results are that ALL the girls are pregnant, and a majority could be having twins, with the possibility of three girls lambing triplets. 😳 It looks like it’s going to be a busy lambing. I think I’ll start getting extra sleep now!! 😉😂

A huge thank you to Dr Monica and Amy for their work today, especially pointing out the lambs in the scan pics to me. It’s so cute when you see them move!! 😍🩷🩵

PS. Dottie says she is never having another lamb unless I get pink gloves like Dr Monica’s! 🩷😂

For those who are breeding their Babydoll girls this year, it could be a tough one, due to the conditions we have had and are still experiencing. Some breeders are already finding Pregnancy Toxaemia and Hypocalcaemia are rearing their ugly heads and these are always easier to prevent than treat. The grass at the moment looks green but has a high water content and not much goodness so ensure your ewes are getting adequate feed and mineral intake. Keep mineral blocks or loose lick topped up, especially Calcium blocks and Lambing blocks.
In the last trimester, add Molasses water separately to their regular water access, to help prevent Preg. Tox.
If you need more information about Hypoglycaemia and Hypocalcaemia, there is some on our web site, along with other lambing info. 😊

So, yesterday was THIS day with the Elliottdale girls - Preg. testing day. I wasn’t sure what to expect as eight of the fourteen girls are maiden ewes and two of the rams are first time boys, so there was a possibility of it being a bit “hit and miss” and it was. The six older girls tested positive and all of Clancy’s girls tested positive. Now we just hope for one or two ram lambs from Clancy. 🤞🙏

Sherbet had four out of five girls test positive and Kush, who jumped the fence to get to girls is three out of five. We will retest the non-positives again, just in case they were bred a bit later, but so far we have eleven of the Elliott girls due to lamb in September.

It’s so exciting to increase the population of one of the rarest sheep breeds in the world. These guys are so special and we feel so privileged to be their guardians. I can’t wait to meet the new round of lambs. 🩷🐑🩵🐑

Dottie - Queen of the Mineral Block😂

“No, you cannot have any minerals! They are MINE, ALL MINE!”😬👑😈

It took a bit of a “talking-to” from The Shepherdess, this morning, before Queen D. would allow anyone else access to the new mineral block. And you can tell from the look on her face, she meant business. Even Callie turned away when the Kind and Benevolent Queen momentarily turned into the Wicked Witch of the West! 😬😂
She did eventually remember her manners and calm was restored, but we still had the sulky face! 😂🩷👑

I think Sherbet is my favourite Elliottdale ram we have bred so far. He is so well put together; his legs are good, he has a beautiful topline, nice head, and great fleece. Add to that he has inherited his Dad’s beautiful nature and Granddad’s patience. He is not a big boy, but that doesn’t worry me as I think some of our breeds are getting too big, so handling them and shearing them is more difficult.
Dad is Wilfred Gordon, Granddad is Henry Lawson and Mum is the lovely Carla, who is also mother to Callie. 🩷 You can see the Callie look in his face. 🥰
And I finally managed some nice photos of him. Good boy, Sherbet. 🩵

We were out in the forest paddock, cutting wood this afternoon, when Daisy barked to say she had found something. Coco immediately rushed over as back-up, not sure why as she doesn’t have a brave bone in her body! 🙄 I thought I better go and check even though it’s technically a bit cold for snakes, as we have seen one before in the paddock in Winter.😬

The dogs were fascinated as an Echidna had dug itself into some lovely soft earth and just his spines were showing. Hopefully, it will shelter him from the rain that is due this afternoon. As you can see he’s pretty well camouflaged in amongst the sticks and leaves. Daisy soon lost interest but Coco stood guard until we left. 💚😊

Although they numbered in the tens of thousands in the 1980’s the breed is now listed as Critical with there being less than one hundred purebred breeding ewes left.
